Newbie here
Well just joined the group and hoping this works.
I have decided to try this diet after watching a friend do it and
seeing it work great for her.
So tomorrow morning I start.
Is there anything that I should know starting off?
I was wondering if there was a list (besides the book) that I could
copy to put on the fridge with the list of things that I can eat and
can not eat. Carrying around the book is hard to do all the time?
As a quick question that I did not really see in the book, but might
have missed it, I take a multi-vititam and extra calcium, should I
be taking anything else?
I know that there is a multi that you can get thru his website and
did not know if that was better.
Also is there anyone in the San Francisco area on here that might be
a support system close by or a mentor……
Sorry so many questions….
Just a little scared….

Hey Phyllis,
I saved this from a old post
JELLO
It just so happens I searched today for a recipe for homemade jello and came
across this one:
1 envelope Knox Gelatin
1 cup boiling water
1 cup cold water
10 packets Splenda
1 teaspoon Sugar Free Koolaid — adjust to taste*
- Put 1 cup water on to boil.
- Meanwhile, sprinkle gelatin into 1 cup cold water.
-Mix in 10 packets Splenda and 1 tsp.Kool aid powder.
-Stir until thoroughly dissolved.
-Add boiling water and stir.
-Now, taste the mixture and adjust amount of Splenda andKoolaid to taste — you
may need a little more of each.*(Write down the exact measurement you prefer so
you can repeat it in the future.)
- Chill until firm.
With the different flavors of KoolAid you can have a bit of variety and it’s
cheap too! LOL I plan on trying it out soon.

Hello Everyone,
I started on Atkins on 8/11 and am happy to report 11 pounds have
been shed thus far. I’m 25, female, and live in Connecticut. My
boyfriend and I are doing this together, which I’m sure has to be a
great advantage! I figured that this would be a great place to meet
others who are in the same stage that I am.
I’d love to hear form some of you soon!! Have a great day!!

Hello All
Well I am starting the diet now. I manage 2 days and fell
off the wagon so I am starting all over again. I have some questions
though,
1 is anyone else doing it Solo where no one else in the family is
doin the diet also?
2 did anyone in the first few days get stomach cramps? hey feel
almost like pms cramps. I was reading an article in Womens First that
when a body Detoxes itself from caffien and sugar it will have some
lousy feeling days. This Months First mag has a good article on
Atkins if anyone is interested,
3 Does anyone here have thyroid problems?
On to me, I am 31 married 3 kids. When I met my hubby 11 years ago I
weighed 90 lbs, I am now 148. My goal is 100 to 110.
I come from a family of Obese women. I am 4′8″,my aunt and
grandmother 4″11. both have had barriatric surgery one is having it
reversed due to problems over the years so now I am feeling pretty
desperate. none of my clothes fit and i am cranky and tired all the
time. my thyroid is part of the problem. I am on meds but not loosing
so now I am adding selenium to my mass of drug arsenal.
ok now that I have bent ya’lls ear jusy=t wanted to say HI

Hey my girlffriend and I had the subway wrap here in Canada and it was
delicious. If you want it bigger, you n eed to add more of the
vegtetables. They only put maybe half a cup altogether on the wrap. I
had the chicken/bacon with Ranch and it was a total of 8 carbs. But it
is a lifesaver for those who have to travel a lot.

My husband left my young twins and I almost a year ago and I have been
From: “Bambi”
struggling with coping on my own. I am hoping that a weight
loss will give me some confidence again. My goal is to lose up to 60 lbs.
I always make time for cooking healthy meals for my
children and just add carbs for them onto my diet.
Hi Diane,
I’m so sorry you’ve been left struggling on your own. Good luck on this
diet. It is a good one and you can achieve your goal.

Hi all,
I am switching over from South Beach Diet. I had some success on
Atkins last summer, but stopped dieting when I had shoulder surgery.
I had too much pain to worry about what I was eating. I tried the
SBD to see what it was about, and did not have much luck because I
liked eating foods allowed on Atkins… (sausage, cheddar cheese,
bacon, lo carb ice cream, etc.) Plus there are so many foods allowed
on Atkins that SBD does not allow. Subway is one and the lo carb
bars are another.
I am at 164.5 currently and this is my 2nd day. I am 5′5″, and hope
to get down to 140-145. It has been decade since I was that thin,
hoping to get there again. Maybe I will even go lower. But for now I
want to aim for 140.
I also have another great reason to lose weight and get in tip top
shape. I am a volunteer firefighter and hope to become a paid one
someday. However that would mean I have to leave Long Island and I
don’t want to do that… Being a female firefighter as you all may
know requires a woman to be very fit and VERY STRONG!
I know that I need to exercise to be successful, but right now it is
all I can do to get through p.t. on my shoulder. The pain meds have
me so lethargic.. But someday soon I will get back to the gym… In
the meantime, I try to do my situps and ab exercises everyday..
I look forward to working along with everyone here.

Kris: I am 5′4, and am going for 140 pounds. I have a shoulder problem
right at the moment and am muscle relaxants that put on weight. I have
managed to maintain my weight over the past month and have another month
to go. I hope then to be able to lose the 20 pounds I need to lose. I
am currently doing 30 carbs a day, lots of protein and some low carb
bread/tortillas. Good luck and success to you.
Brenda.

Greetings All…
I’ve been reading posts for a while, but this is my first. I read
DANDR a coupled weeks before I started induction 05/01/04. Doing
Atkins with my Dr.’s urging. So far so good - although I’m not used
to eating all this protein, but it’s getting easier. The thing I
find so surprising is not being hungry… sometimes I really have to
watch that, because (like today) I’ll forget to eat when I should!
lol
Here are my stats:
37 female
5′ 8 & 1/2″ (and large boned… honestly…lol)
05/01/04 - 245
05/08/04 - 237 (8 lbs! Yeah!)
mini goal 230
big goal 160-165
No cheats (and haven’t been tempted… weird)
I use fitday software to track everything
just got some sticks today… I’m “in the dark pink zone”
So, going good right now… I’m just concerned what the next several
days will bring since it’s TOM… thinking it might be best just to
stay off the scale!
Anyway, long intro from me… just wanted to say hello and that I
look forward to participating in this group.
Make a Great Day!

Hello Everyone!!
My name is Michelle. I am 33 years old, married with 3 children. I
have been reading the Atkins for Life book the last two days. I am
looking forward to getting control of my weight but I think I am
thinking a little to hard LOL. I havent started yet. I was trying
to read the book first. I have also downloaded a few pages off the
Atkins website - rules of induction, acceptable foods and such.
What would be very helpful I think is to see how others started.
Did you plan out meals for two weeks? Did you just eat what you
wanted off the list as long as you were under the 20 net carbs?
Help!!! LOL I think I am just thinking about this too much and
making it harder than it is.
Michelle
