Hello, folks. I’m puzzling why my weight loss is so slow, and thought
some of you might have a clue. After 10 weeks in induction, I’m down
only 3 pounds, even though ketone strips for the last six weeks show
I’m at the “high end” of lipolysis. I did the “fat fast” for five
days with no results.
I use a dietician’s computer program (NutriBase) to keep track of my
intake, and it shows I average 18 grams of carbs a day (no day over
24 grams in the 10 weeks). Daily calories run about 1,350, with 75 to
80 percent from fat.
I suppose I shouldn’t complain — a 3-pound loss is a lot better than
the 12 pounds I gained in two years of following a low-fat, 1,400-
calorie-a-day diet. I was trying to shuck off the 15 pounds I gained
after quitting smoking (five years ago). Now I’m trying to shuck off
that plus the 12 pounds gained on the diet!
To be fair, I had a hard time sticking to the low-fat diet. I was
constantly hungry, to the point that I’d get weak and shaky. I’ve had
no trouble sticking to the Atkins regimen. Just wondering if I’ll get
to eat a peach this summer.
I’m female, 53, moderately active, with a high level of motivation to
keep my weight down (strong family history of type 2 diabetes), if
that helps.
