Just started today
hello, I just started the atkins diet today. Wow I cant believe how
addicted I seem to be to carbs. They are all Ive been thinking about
all day. Do any of you know of something sweet that can be eaten on
the induction phase? Hope to learn lots from this chat board

Hi all,
Later for now,
I just started the diet today. I don’t know much about it except
that I’m supposed to stay away from Carbs and sugars. I have a book
that I’m going to start reading tonight, but I didn’t want to put off
my weightloss goals. I need to lose well over 100lbs., so I don’t
feel like I have the time to wait.
Today was very hard. I didn’t really have anything appropriate in
the house for breakfast, so I skipped it. No eggs, no lunch meat, no
bacon…nothing. I’m not typically a breakfast eater. I was pretty
blah around the house most of the day. Eventually, I went to Wendy’s
and got a grilled chicken and bacon salad w/vinagrette dressing.
*ugh* (I’m not an iceberg lettuce fan). I choked most of it down.
This evening I had saukerkraut and sausage. It was blah, too, but
hey…it was quick and low in sugar and carbs. Of course, the fat in
the sausage scares me, but what am I supposed to do?
I bought some steak, salmon and greenbeans. I also got a couple of 1
oz. carbolite, chocolate peanut butter bars. A friend who’s on the
diet said they are “OK.” I was scared to eat them, but I was having
pretty bad cravings. The bars have 0 carbs and 0 sugar, so I guess
they are ok.
Anyway, how’s everyone else doing? Any tips for a newbie who hates
to cook? LOL Well, I just thought I’d introduce myself. Good luck
to everyone else struggling to lose weight. I wish you all much
success and hope that I can *eventually* be of some help to someone
else, but for now…I’m just a pile of mush trying to make it through
the day.

Hi Dennisfan!
I would definately tell you to make sure you have adequate food
around you at all times. Not being prepared (by having ‘allowed
foods’) has always been MY downfall. Make sure you have adequate
eggs, meats, etc at your house to eat.
And learn to eat breakfast, it will save you from getting too hungry
and binging at lunch. (I’m not a breakfast person either.) I either
sip an Atkins shake with ice throughout the morning (while drinking 2
glasses of water)or eating eggs and bacon (while drinking 2 glasses
of water). And after I consume that…. I drink more water! LOL
Although I still go to the bathroom a lot, my body has adjusted to
the increase in water intake. If I cut myself short on water, I
start to feel really yucky and dehydrated fairly quickly. And I have
noticed that I don’t seem to get lines in my face when I stay fully
hydrated (I’m 31).
I read once that our thirst mechanism is so weak anymore, we often
mistake it for hungerpangs. So, we eat instead of drink. In
actuality, most of our society is dehydrated!

Hi again Dennisfan!
I think the issue of getting bored with the meat is a common one -
especially with people who didn’t usually eat that much meat (like
me). If anyone comes up with some easy ideas to ’spice up’ the meat -
let us know!
I have lean ground meat that I make hamburgers out of. I season them
with salt, pepper, Liquid Smoke and Emeril’s Essence.
I think I am also going to take a stab at making (unbreaded) hot
wings. My mom made some for me, and then froze them. I just grab a
bag, throw 6-8 on a plate and microwave them - yum!
