I WORK WITH ALL OF THEM AND THEY USUALLY HAVE EVERYTHING. I AM NEW TO THIS POSTING AND TO THE DIET. SO GLAD I FOUND IT AND THE GROUP.

WEIGHT - ATKINS

Saturday, April 26th, 2003

FUZIE, I AM GLAD YOU ARE GOING TO THE DOCTOR. I JUST STARTED ATKINS; HOWEVER THE SYMPTOMS YOU DESCRIBE SOUND LIKE A CONDITION I HAVE. I AM NOT ON DIURETICS, BUT I HAVE HAD SEVERAL OF THOSE ATTACKS THROUGHOUT THE YEARS. THE LAST TIME WAS RIGHT AFTER OUR MOVE FROM LAS VEGAS TO LOS ANGELES. I FELT AN EPISODE COMING ON WAITING 2 1/2 HOURS AT THE DMV FOR MY CALIF LICENSE. I QUICKLY SAT DOWN ON THE FILTHY FLOOR, RECOVERED, TOOK MY TEST AND PICTURE. SOMEONE AT THE DMV MADE OUT A MEDICAL REPORT SAYING I HAD FAINTED FOR 20 MINUTES. IT TOOK ME 2 MONTHS AND A LOT OF TIME TO STRAIGHTEN IT OUT. THE DOCTOR SAID I HAD BEEN SWEATING AT THE DMV AND WAS DEHYDRATED.

Junzie,
It sounds to me like you are super dehydrated and possibly need some potassium as well (furosemide makes you lose a great deal of this nutrient). When you combine the furosemide (diuretic) with Atkins (already a natural diuretic in itself), you are probably losing way too much in the way of nutrients and water. Read in DANDR about diuretics in his chapter on medications. He strongly advises against them while on his program. Hope this helps!

1st week stats - another convert

Friday, April 25th, 2003

Yet another newbie doing a happy dance - I’m convinced this will work for me.
Started Atkins Induction 6/2/03
Starting weight 183.5
Weight 6/9/03 176.5 Total lost in 1st week - 7 lbs :) Also lost 2 inches from waist, 1 inch from chest, 2 inches from hips for a total loss of 5 inches!
I stayed pretty strict with induction, water intake was too low first couple of days, but I was showing in ketosis (dark purple) by Wednesday. No exercise program, I wanted to give myself a week to just adjust to the diet itself. Will start doing extra walking this week.
Thanks for all the encouragement and info from this list - I can do this!!!

Alexis- Advice needed

Alexis,
You don’t need recipes for the 2 week induction. Just cook steak, fish,
poultry, for lunch and dinner. I don’t have any veggies. Just a salad,
with lettuce, a little feta cheese or a little shredded chedder, lettuce and
a bit of oil & vinegar for dressing.
For breakfast you can use eggs, bacon, sausage. Use a bit of scallions
(green onions) and/or mushrooms in your omelets.
In fact, if you want a hamburger, or steak & eggs for breakfast you can have
it. Just stop counting calories. Veggies may be low in calories but can
add up the carbohydrate grams very fast. Forget “fat free”. Forget “low
fat”; forget Weight Watchers; forget Tops. Forget the “food pyramid”.
Unless you get an exceptional amount of exercise you will gain, not lose,
weight
If you’re trying to do this diet without Atkins book or a good,
all-inclusive carb counter, you will probably lose the battle. Corinne
Netzer’s “Complete Book of Food Counts” is the best of the carb counter’s
I’ve found. Since the carb counts in foods rarely change, you won’t need to
buy any ‘updated’ editions.
Those bars you’re eating don’t belong on induction. Even if they have a low
carb count on the wrapper, they are weight loss stallers. This diet is very
easy if you learn to read and understand the nutrition labels on food.

Help…I’m a little scared

one more thing. sounds like you are potassium deficient. do you take potassium everyday?
you said you followed induction strictly. the next thing that you said was you forgot the vitamims, so, so much for following induction strictly.
i have had patients that needed blood pressure meds adjusted or eliminated within 2 weeks of starting this way of eating.
this is nothing to mess with, but can be very sucessfull. if you would like to email me privately, feel free to.

Advice needed

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2003

I tried to do my first day on the diet and figured out I ate too many
veggies. Can anyone tell me a very basic idiot proof way without
recipes to get through the first two weeks?
I was thinking that if I did the morning bar for breakfast.
1 piece of chicken and 3 cups of salad for lunch and dinner that
might be a better way.
I am using the romanine and red pepper salad recipe from the site as
well as the sauteed chicken or chicken breasts w/ tarragon cream
sauce also from the site.
The more I read the book the more confused I get when trying to apply
it to the recipes.
