Dear Debbie,

Thanks so much for your outstanding contributions to this website.

In fact, I want to thank everyone who had written to this web address offering their insight and encouragement.

It DOES make a huge difference to those of us who are struggling to stay with the Atkins way of life.

DARLA AND YOUR CRAVING FOR SWEETS

Wednesday, May 28th, 2003

Dear Darla,

Sorry to hear about the death of your dear friend’s husband.

I have also noticed a connection between my feeling sad and having a desire for sweets.

I highly recommend that whenever you feel this way, you reach for an Dr. Atkins low carb Advantage bar. It does the trick for me!

Take care.

Hello! I’ve done pretty well so far, was down 4lbs. this a.m. but I do have a question. I’ve had horrible cravings today for sweets! I don’t know what caused this, the other days were fine! A dear friend of mine lost her husband during the night from a massive heart attack and maybe I’m just down in the dumps and looking to reach for comfort foods, I don’t know. I thought I read somewhere that the cravings for sweets WILL go away after a bit. Is this true? I’m wondering because so many people post recipes or tips for great treats that are ‘legal’ yet sooth their cravings for sweets. I was really hoping these cravings would eventually just leave and I wouldn’t have to find alternatives. Curious????

Thanks, Darla

Day five - ugh!!!!

Wednesday, May 28th, 2003

Virg,

I fell awful the first time around this diet in Feb. - I personally think it’s our system’s way of cleaning itself of the toxins that make us sick. Only a lot of water will help. I even had to stop for a while. Then, I went back, and things were fine! I now have been back on the diet for 16 days, I feel fine, no headaches. In order to avoid stomach acidity, I make sure to eat a green whenever I’m eating meat, etc.

Hope this helps. I can understand how you feel, but keep it up, you’ll be so glad at the results!

Randolph Jones and the end of food cravings

Wednesday, May 28th, 2003

Food used to be like drinking an alcoholic beverage to me…..Since I began Induction, those cravings, slowly have gone away. Getting off of Carbs has been like quitting quitting smoking. Now that it’s out of my system, I look at food much differently.

Sincerely,

Randolph Jones
randy@…

Dear Randolph,

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts about food cravings. I agree 100% with your statement that food, to you, used to be like alcohol to an alcoholic.

Before I found the Atkins Program, my food cravings literally controlled my thoughts and actions each and every day of my life, which invariably led to stuffing my face with food, often to the point the point of nausea. After gorging myself on food, Id feel so much self-loathing and yet I felt so helpless and powerless to control my daily binges. And, to add insult to injury, I was never satisfied for long, before my overwhelming food cravings, and my desire to binge, returned as strong and overpowering as ever. I was helpless to control this destructive cycle of bingeing and self-loathing.

I didn’t realize, at the time, that an addiction to carbohydrates was causing my food binges and NOT a moral weakness or simply a lack of self-control. The FACT is I DID have an addiction to carbohydrates which fueled my food cravings and made me powerless to control my bingeing behavior. I was just like the active alcoholic who is powerless to control his alcoholic binges.

When I began to follow the Atkins food program, two months ago, for the first time in my life, I was set free from my obsession with food and thinking about where Id get my next fix of carbohydrates from. For the first time in my life, with the help of the Atkins Program, food has been put in its proper place, for what it is and should always be; a source of nourishment and enjoyment, not a tool for physical abuse and self-destruction.

Thanks for listening.

FYI, BJ’s wholesale club has Atkins and low carb items! I got macademia nuts,
atkins ice cream (in a two-box package, vanilla and chocolate), ostrich burger

Stallers: Splenda NOT okey!

Wednesday, May 28th, 2003

Hi again,
Those of you who are stalling, and have read my previous posting
with advice for stallers, I apologise: I wrote before thinking
first. Splenda is absolutely NOT okey, as it has an extremely high
GI (glycemic index) being based on sugar, and can really mess up
your new approach to nourishment. So my advice is to stay off
Splenda, and if you have to have any sugar or sweeteners at all,
stay with the artificial ones (once again, Mendosa has GI lists on
his site at www.mendosa.com).//ingrid

Advice for stallers

Tuesday, May 27th, 2003

Hi,
If you stall, you may suffer from extreme sensitivity to sugar. In
other words, the tiniest speck of sugar in the mayo or some other
lowcarb food will trigger your body to store the fat in your meal
instead of burning it. You have to go sugarfree, make your own mayo
and such. I read a few books on glycemic index, and any sugar will
disturb your metabolism, also in the form of high-glycemic foods
such as carrots, potatoes, flour, rice and such (a diabetic’s
enemy). There’s a cookbook calles “Sugarfree New Orleans” that you
can fetch ideas from while you’re on Atkins, but bear in mind that
the recipes are not designed towards Atkins only, but more to the
glycemic index. If you want to learn more check it out at

Cream -amount allowed?

Tuesday, May 27th, 2003

Hello, everyone,
I’ve read the UK version of Atkins /Vermillion press, and there are
contraditing amounts of cream allowed: on one page it says 2-
3tbsp/day during Induction, on another it says 2-3ounces/day. The
Italian Almond Cream (delicious!!!) recipe is allowed during
induction, and it’s close to an ounce. Anyone know anything? I wrote
to the Atkinscenter, but I only got an auto reply to read the book
or site (ugh!)/ingrid

KETO brand jello is sweetened with splenda and/or stevia. I found it at Hi
Health and Lo Carb Mall here in Phoenix.
