Inductee ketosis confusion

I’ve been on the induction diet for 3 weeks and can’t reach
ketosis. I’ve found out I needed to eliminate nutrasweet, caffeine
and eat only bacon that is sugar free. (No butcher in this area has
heard of sugar free bacon!) I’ve now cut out the sugar free jello
and all salads. I am slowly weaning myself from caffeine to avoid
headaches.
The question is, when I reach ketosis how long do I have to stay in
ketosis? Is it for two weeks? Is it for one day?
Sugar free bacon? I never heard of that either. I use Turkey bacon, its good and has less fat. Its hard to say what you mat be doing wrong if you dont write an example of what your eating. That would give us a clue. Sometimes people don’t go into Ketosis. My husband didnt but he sure lost inches and weight. Don’t cut out your sugar free jello. I used to make that and it never kicked me out of Ketosis so that means its not keeping you out of it. Are you on any medications? That can do it. Hidden carbs sure can do it. How about telling us what you have been eating and we can see if something in your diet is keeping you from losing, You just may be one of those people who dont make the stick turn purple like my husband but that does not stop you from losing.

Just going through my mail and it interesting what you say about sugars. I
hadn’t thought about it I’m going to look in to this more. I’m just starting
my second week, I’ve put weight on!!!! I’m on meat , salads, sea food, some
white wine is that ok? Any more pointers.
Hi,
Wine isnt ok. Your body will burn the alcohol instead of fat. Any kind of alcohol is a no no.

Our experience with aspartame

Sunday, May 25th, 2003

Hi. Somebody asked about aspartame. Thought I would share our experience with it. I have been heavy all my life so when my son was born I was determined that would not happen to him. When he was three he was diagnosed with autism and mental retardation. He very seldom had sweets, and when he did, it would almost always be sweetened with aspartame. I would drink diet sodas with aspartame and when he would want a drink of mine, I gave him sips or as he got older, maybe one small kid cup a day or every other day. If we had jello, it was sugar free, etc, etc. You get the idea. Anyways, when I began researching treatments for autism, I met a nutritionist online who was knowledgeable about autism. She asked me about his diet. When I mentioned the aspartame, she told me to immediately take him and myself off it. Big time bad stuff. That was seven years ago, so I don’t remember her reasonings well - something about how it transforms in the body, and isn’t stable at high
heat so it is already breaking down in the food due to how they transport it. I think. Like I said, years ago. Anyways, I immediately took both of us off the aspartame. Absolutely amazing results within one week. While my son was of course still autistic, the only way I can describe his improvement is to imagine a very snowy tv reception getting clearer. A week after I took him off it, all his therapists were asking me what had happened - he was much more with it, alert, and responsive to what they were trying to do. Now, I am obviously in no way blaming the aspartame for his autism, but getting him off it was a good thing. (by the way - his treatments worked and he is now a normal and academically gifted child).
My benefits from getting off aspartame were that my headaches and migraines suddenly became a thing of the past. Where I used to get a migraine once a week, it is now about four times a year. When I get a headache now, there is usually an identifiable reason, whereas back then I was clueless. Anyways, just thought our experiences might be helpful to someone. Virg

Newby with a question

Sunday, May 25th, 2003

Hi,
I’m new here. I have been doing Atkins for 3 weeks now - still on induction
as I have quite a few Kgs(pounds) to shed. When I first started I was
loosing weight hand over fist now I seem to have Plateaued out. I haven’t
lost anything for the past 1 1/2 weeks. I have been doing nothing different
from when I started but seem to have come to a weight loss stand still. I
can remember trying the diet many years ago and something similar happening
and I eventually lost heart and gave up.
Does anyone have any suggestions about what might be going on and how I can
get the weight shifting again?
cheers,

Day five - ugh!!!!

Sunday, May 25th, 2003

On day five. I feel like shit. Don’t know if dinner (3 ir 4 bites of fish and some asparagus) is going to stay down or not. I want to curl up in a miserable ball and disappear. I am dizzy, my stomach hurts, I have a headache, my vision is blurry, my whole body feels like I have the flu or something (I don’t), and I want to bite the head off anyone who comes around me. I have absolutely no energy, and am falling asleep just sitting here at the computer. I am taking vitamins. My appetite is gone except a craving for any food I am not supposed to eat. Right now all I can see is a box of Frosted Flakes and milk in my dreams. I cannot tell you how heartily sick I am of meat and eggs. If I see one more omelet or hamburger patty I think I will lose it. We won’t even discuss canned tuna. I went to the movies today and had a hamburger patty and a bottle of water while everyone else had popcorn and soda. I had no idea how distracting a room full of people eating popcorn
could be. They are really loud. Can’t even tell you about the movie. I absolutely hate this diet tonight!!!!!!! My mother, who started the diet the same time I did, feels great and is dropping weight like nobody’s business. I hate her. ;-) Ok, done whining. Thanks for listening. Any words of wisdom are most appreciated. Virg.

deep fried foods

Sunday, May 25th, 2003

my husband and I are about to start the induction. We have searched
high and low but cannot come up with any recipes for DEEP frying.
My husband would like to prepare his seafood this way. Anyone with
any leads or tips ? Will this be an acceptable way to prepare with
the right oil, of course? Thanx for any feedback.

Hello all….

I am a very committed looser!

I have been on induction for 15 days, and fell off two days ago on a one day trip. But I got back on after that meal and am doing great again. My food choice was not too bad. ( one meal only and it was a croissant from Burger King) Took me right out of Ketosis, but today I find I am back in Ketosis.

My K stix have only gone into the second color through out this 15 day period, but I am still happy for the feeling of loose clothes around my body. I have only lost 4 pounds but still feel better than I did last month.

I enjoy reading the posts here, but your post make me think I should be loosing more and getting into the darker colors of the K stix.

I do not have cravings, never did except for chocolate, but find the Adkins vitamins and oils stopped that. I have read the book and continue to do so.

I am 58, weigh 230, 6′ and large frame. My weight is all in the middle, I can disguise it very well with clothes, but my horse knows my weight when I ride and so do I.

Now, I may be one of the lucky ones, going on this WOE with out any problems, but I now am not sure if I should be darker in the K stix and be loosing faster.

Help please.

Jo

I feel good …

Saturday, May 24th, 2003

Two weeks in, down from 232 to 221.5 (including some minor
cheating). No problems, no cravings and this morning I fit into a 42
waist size, instead of 44. I definitely feel good.

I tried to reply privately it didn’t work and after further reading I see
the bars are taken :0) Thanks though for the offer. Nice to see people who
still want to help others out.
I like those carbo lite bars. The choc truffle are really good as well as
the peanut butter ones. My dd likes the mint too.
Wish I could find an alternative to icecream during this phase. It has been
so hot and humid that I just want something cool. Used to suck on cream
bars or popsicles but that won’t work now :) Karyn
