Char,
We CAN get you through this induction. Im worried about you and I want to see you healthy and feeling good. My uncle has diabetes and for years he didnt take care of what he ate and his weight. Now he is paying for it. The circulation in his legs are bad and he has an infection that wont go away. So far he has 3 operations and its still taking very long to heal. How much weight do you have to lose to put you in a safe zone? We can all do this together. We can even share what we ate in the day.

I’m 2 weeks and minus 10 pounds into induction, headed for minus 40.
Until now, I have resisted giving up coffee for decaf because, in short,
I love it. I grind my own Starbucks, drink it black (yep, I’ve done
decaf Starbucks; it’s not the same, gotta have that morning jolt).
When I read Atkins’ books, it seems to me that eliminating caffeine is
not actually part of the ketosis process, but more along the lines of a
personal conviction of Dr Atkins, that caffeine just bad for you. If
so, I’ll take my chances. Am I correct in this, or is it just wishful
thinking?

Coffee is also one of my biggest temptations, things that are hard to avoid.
However if you want to have one really good cup of coffee, you can. Each cup
has one carb, and remember to count the cream that you add -per Atkins
online carb counter: http://atkins.com/global/carb-counter/index.html 2TBS
heavy cream has 0.8g carbs. You can get sugar free flavoring many places
(sugar free syrups like Torani or DaVinci - come in every flavor imaginable)
including Starbucks and other coffee houses, although in those stores they
usually only offer sugar free vanilla and or hazelnut. So if you are out,
order a small coffee drink (whatever, cappuccino, latte, breve, etc.) made
with heavy cream (not the regular milk they have - you must specify heavy
cream or you will be consuming lots of carbs - close to 12 carbs for a cup!)
and sugar free syrup or no sugar free syrup and add your own Splenda. (Count
those carbs too, each packet of Splenda = 1 carb, I hate that!)When I order
this out I drink 1/2 the cup because the cream makes it a pretty high
calorie drink and on Induction you are only supposed to have 3TBS of
cream/daily, so a whole drink with all cream would be way over that.
Hope that helps
