Day 5 ~ Really frustrated now.

Ok ~ I just started on Sunday and was very enthusiastic after doing
weeks of research on this diet I thought ~ this is the one for me, I
can do this. I don’t want to make this a book but I’ll give a little
background ~ I’m 44 yo F and I’ve roller coasted with my weight all my
life, always about 20 or so pounds overweight. Then almost 6 years
ago I had my daughter and miraculously only gained 11 pounds during my
pregnancy and lost 50. I’d been at my highest weight ever (154)
pre-pregnancy. I am only 5′ 2 1/2″ so at 115 lbs I felt great, but
skeptical ~ I thought ~ it’ll come back so I kept all my “bigger”
clothes. But by last summer I had only put back about 7 lbs so I felt
pretty safe after 5 years getting rid of all those clothes ~ BIG
MISTAKE. Since last summer I put on 20 lbs and got back up to 142 ~ I
tried other diets but was only able to lose 3 lbs ~ which brings me to
now. I started on Sunday at 139 lbs. I’ve stayed well below 20 grams
of carbs and lost 1 lb by day 3, lost another 2 by day 4 but then this
morning (day 5) when I weighed myself I gained back 2. I would like
to get back to that 115. I was so excited yesterday, but today for me
was a major setback. I keep reading about others who have lost like 8
lbs by day 5 ~ what am I doing wrong? I haven’t been able to exercise
for more than about 10 minutes a day (I’m a single mom and my little
girl has been really sick since Monday). I’ve been eating eggs and
sausage for breakfast, about a cup of salad w/feta cheese and turkey
breast for lunch, dinner has been either steak or chicken with 1 C of
salad and 1 C of veggies from the approved list (with butter of
course) and for snacks I’ve had either sugar free jello or pork rinds
or even a couple of slices of cheese and turkey breast. I’m trying to
get all my water in and doing pretty well with that. I do have
caffeine ~ can’t seem to stop that ~ need at least my one cup a day
(black) but it’s 1/2 decaf 1/2 regular. Anyway, sorry for making this
a book. I’m getting discouraged, I don’t want to give up ~ any advice
or suggestions would be great ~ thanks for reading.

    Cyndy, yesterday I tested the coffee thing. I had ordered a cup and forgot to say decaf, so I drank it anyway. Got home and tested and was deep in ketosis. Tested again after dinner and this mrning, and stayed there. You might want to try testing, to see whether it’s taking you out of ketosis. If it’s not, then I should think you’d be okay with your little cup of coffee!

    It’s 115 degrees outside here just now. I may go into the pool. Having something you enjoy doing sure helps with the exercise. My daughter has enrolled in a biweekly aerobics class, and she has firmed up, and is enjoying it.

    Now I’d have three eggs and lots of butter — totally allowed on the diet. You aren’t eating very much, and you are allowed to eat more than that. Much more. I’m stuffing - never been so full actually or felt so well while trying to diet. I think you are very strict with yourself,

    Hey, it’s okay to sound down, especially if you are feeling down. I don’t think putting on a front is going to help, and this is the place and we are the people to share with.

    My husband has lost only 3 pounds in 14 days (we’re day 14) but I can see that the fat is less. On myself, as well. I actually feel my thighs and the blub around my waist is less than it was.

    Hang in there, and eat more of the allowed foods. Eat until you are satisfied, and we’ll support each other through a bad time.
