Ketosis makes you stupid?

Saturday, June 21st, 2003

I got Ketostix at Cosco, 100 for $13. Walgreen wanted $15 for 50.

And I am in total ketosis, higher than which it does not go, but what I want to know is, does anybody else find they are getting stupid at about this point?

I seem unable to focus, kept locking my daughter into the car because I was confused about whether up or down was locked, nearly hit a cop car because I couldn’t remember who had stopped at the intersection first.

My husband seems to be stupid too.

TO RANDOLPH- RE: I fell off the wagon this weekend.

Saturday, June 21st, 2003

It’s so funny how the mind works when it comes to carbs, tobacco, alcohol or
other adicting
substances. I know a gal who quit smoking for 7 years, thought she’d have just
one, now it’s
been 12 years still smoking. I think it’s all very close to sugar/carbs. I have
“rewarded”
myself for losing weight in the past with the very thing that causes weight
gain. The brain
is out to get us! My goal is to reward with other “good” things like a massage,
new outfit
etc. We’ll see. It’s been slow going for me I’ve been on since May 14 with 2
“bad” days and
have lost only 11 pounds. I feel really good though and have slept better than I
can remember.
So this and finally hitting the dark end of the stick again have kept me going.
I figure
in less than a year I’ll be at goal weight and seeing as I’ve weighed in the 200
range for
better than 10 years, what is another 6-7 months?

Day 3 of Induction

Saturday, June 21st, 2003

Well today I woke up with a terrible headache, I think it’s from
reducing caffiene. (I’m afraid I can’t stop coffee all together,
although I do drink it black). I’ve lost 1 lb as of this morning, so
that’s encouraging ~ 23 to go. Finding this group has helped a lot. Is
there anyway of knowing if you are in ketosis without the strips?
Still looking for something besides eggs for breakfast ~ any ideas???
Thanks Cyndy

Rick, All’s fair in love and dieting. That’s my philosophy, anyhow. My husband has also been making a lot of trips to the happy shirt department.

Are ALL vegetarians skinny?

Friday, June 20th, 2003

A friend of mine recently suggested that the carbs are probably not
the issue, and that Atkins works under a false assumption, as my
friend has never met an overweight vegetarian. As I couldn’t recall
one either, I wonder - anyone here a vegetarian?//ingrid

Need support and ideas!

Thursday, June 19th, 2003

Hey all….

This week end (4 days) I am going on a horseback ride with many friends. They have pot lucks every night!…. yup… you know what I need help with now… I don’t know what is going to be in any of the stuff and I am not sure what I should eat that will be there. I will take a large salad to share so I know I will have that, but most of the time we have these pot lucks, there is stuff there I know I can not eat this time.

I need your support and ideas…..

I have been on induction for 3 weeks and seem to be doing great! I am very proud of myself as I am doing this for me, no one else. I finally found I don’t need to impress anyone… I just need to feel better, and I do.

I did binge last night but it was an ok binge, sugarless Jell-O and heavy whipped cream on it. It was very good and I am still in mild ketosis ( I have never been above the mild on the stick.)

Wish me luck this week end!

New to the group but not Atkins

Thursday, June 19th, 2003

I’m a 52 year old man living in Florida. I weighted 267 lbs last
summer. I went on a strict 10 gram max induction diet and stayed on
it. I began it in Sept and by Dec I had lost over 50 lbs. I got down
to 60 lbs in Jan or Feb and then didn’t budge. Even now in June I’ve
only lost two more pounds. I found that when I went up to 20 or 25
grams I actually gained weight. I should add that I love this diet
and it’s fun to be on it, so I can live with being 205 lbs if I have
to. I’m 5′9″. I have a history of compulsive overeating and
the “unlimited” fats and proteins might not have taken binge eaters
into consideration. I lost my last two pounds by eating only small
portions of meat and fat. I don’t experience fullness like “normal”
people do. I’ve studied the science behind Atkins and I’ve developed
weird recipes that satisfy me but gross others out. Anyway, it’s nice
to have found a place to share and compare…….Larry in West Palm

You’re lucky in that respect as well! Think of all the cute clothes you could wear.

Conversion to Individual Portion

Wednesday, June 18th, 2003

Can someone tell me how to change a recipe that calls for 4-6 serving into 1 serving. I know this is a stupid question, but I was wondering if there was a site that you could enter the info into and then it would give you the recipe for just one serving.

Thanks,

Bobbie

New at this

Wednesday, June 18th, 2003

Hi ~ I just started this yesterday, still a bit confused about what I
can and can’t eat. I know yesterday I didn’t eat enough, but I guess
that’s better than too much. Last night I had a bit of a stomach ache
and today I am a bit tired and hungry, but I’ve heard that will pass.
It seems everything I have in the house has a million grams of carbs ~
time to go shopping I think. I can’t think of anything but eggs to
have for breakfast during induction ~ any ideas would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks
