Cheated but.. “Back on the Road Again”

Wednesday, June 18th, 2003

Well I hit three weeks on Atkins last Thursday. My blood pressure has gone
from 144/95 to 124/74 !!!!!!
And I’ve lost 12 lbs, not as much as I’ve hoped, but more than ever before
and certainly enough to keep on pluggin’ away.
Took the family on a picnic yesterday and had about 6 potato chips (after a
long mental battle) and discovered I
didn’t even care for them. Then I had a chocolate cream oreo.. that was
better than I remembered, and it turned into five or six I believe.
whoopsie.
But, I’m happy to say that I just went right back to Atkins today, no
problem. I’m hoping once in awhile I can make a boo boo like that and still
keep it in control and go straight back to Atkins.
BTW.. I was at another Atkins site the other night, and someone asked if
they MUST have 20 carbs a day in
induction. I said no, since I have always stayed below that myself.
Suddenly I had this woman telling me in no uncertain terms that “we only
give CORRECT, by the BOOK answers around here”. And she went on to tell
this person that she must balance her diet EXACTLY to get 20 grams a day.
I spoke up…” but doesn’t ATkins say to slow down too fast loss with adding
carbs? Because I know I wasn’t losing and took carbs down to 17 or less,
and started losing.” She INSISTED that I would stall myself and that
I MUST get back up to 20 carbs a day. I told her the book didn’t state
this, she insisted it did. She was obviously a respected ring leader who
had all the others believing her.
I just know I can’t find it my books, nor is it true for me.. I stall when I
do hit 20 grams.
Anyone know if it does say we must get EXACTLY 20 grams a day??
Thanks!

Kengibs…or who ever….can a person stay on induction for as long as they want to, as long as they are taking their vitamins? i lost 20lbs. in 2 weeks should i worry about to much (weight) so fast? i want to lose 30 (50 all together) more and keep on induction. should i try this or would it be better if i go to the next phase?….y/f…. Charlette,
You can try adding a very small amount of vegtables to your diet to slow your weight loss down a bit. Im not sure what Dr. Atkins said about that but for me myself, maybe it is too much too fast. I mean its great to lose like that but it may be a bit much on the body. See if this works for you and if your still losing very fast, then going to the next stage may be a good idea.

How fast have others lost weight - during the induction period

Tuesday, June 17th, 2003

I have finished my first week - started at 217 down to 211
(Ketosis measurement is usually moderate when checked)
Can others share with me what their weight loss was over the first
month or two.
Is losing only 6 pounds in 8 days consistent with the diet. Any
feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks

Fat Fast

Tuesday, June 17th, 2003

Hi! Has anyone here done the fat fast? I started it this morning because I am still in induction and am only losing about a pound a week. I am sticking to it religeously so it has to be metabolism. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Denise

I forgot to mention that some of the the recipes I found include Equal. That should be substituted with Splenda. Here is the address again.

TO RANDOLPH- RE: I fell off the wagon this weekend.

I was so happy that I lost 15 lbs that I thought I’d have one High Carb meal to celebrate. BIG MISTAKE! It’s turned into 4 big meals now. MASSIVE INDUCTION BEGINS MONDAY AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel like I’m out of control again.

Sincerely,

Randolph Jones

Dear Randloph,

Dear Randolph,

Please hang in there and try to forgive yourself. OK?

I know this is far easier said than done. But the IS HOPE and RECOVERY found by following the low-carb Atkins food plan again.

I think, in fact I’m certain if I ate a high carb meal, I, too, would lose control and fall off the wagon until I got back to eating low carb foods again.

Perhaps like the recovering alcoholic, who can no longer tolerate just one more drink, (because one drink invariably leads to an alcohol binge) people, like you and me, Randolph, can no longer eat a high carb meal without losing control.

The GOOD NEWS is this: The Atkins low-carb way of eating, provides us with the means to get back on the wagon and stop the endless food binges.

Take care of yourself, Randolph, and please know that you are among friends here (on this web site) who understand and don’t judge you because we’ve all been there and done that!

Thanks for the many helpful insights, suggestions and encouragement you’ve shared with us here on the Atkins Bulletin Board.

Sincerely yours,

Judy Gibson

Randy, one thing we have to learn is that we can’t always celebrate with high carb foods. Im so sad this happened. I would get right back to induction.

OK, Christine, so how come when men gain weight, we look like we’re
pregnant?

Thats too funny!!! They say that you know your eating too many carbs when you have that pouch in your belly. Susan Summers said that and her diet is a take off of Atkins. Woman naturally have more fat then men and sadly we have it in more places then men do. (We are well insulated ugh!) One of the places that men do carry their fat is in their bellies. When they gain weight, it gets stored in that area more then anywhere else. Woman carry it in their arms, legs, bellies, behinds… *banging head against the wall* It’s not easy being a woman.
