Hang in there…response to Cheryl from Chicagoland

Thursday, July 31st, 2003

Hi everyone…I have been like Cheryl, lost 20 pounds right away and now have
stalled after two months, for weeks. But I keep doing the same things, and
writing down EVERYTHING, with carbo counts. Found out for one thing that I was
not eating enough, so I will make adjustments. And some of my carbo count
books/websites vary, so I was eating on some days too many carbs. It seems to be
a fine science of getting it just right, but as Cheryl also says, feeling good
is what it is all about. My doctor here doesn’t do blood tests unless
emergencies(Holland) so I don’t know where I stand on that, but I did just get
back from buying some clothes. Finally, did not have to buy XL; what a joy to
buy L. And to see my waist again. My weight loss results were fast at first,
with water weight, but the end result , while slower, is worth it. I didn’t get
‘fat’ overnight, and won’t get healthy again overnight. While shopping, I
passed my favorite bread shop, and smelled the lovely things baking, but made a
decision to keep on walking past the store. Those decisions are the ones I don’t
want to make when tired, or hungry, but my life depends upon it. How about you?
Immediate gratification just isn’t worth it for me anymore. From my lips to my
hips was my old motto, now it is ‘better in the store than in my mouth’. Hang
in there, everyone. Atkins really works, if you work at it. Thanks for all the
encouragement and tips from you lovely people. Barbara in Holland

Day 2, withdrawal?

Thursday, July 31st, 2003

Hello! I just started Atkins yesterday, and I am feeling better this
morning, but last night I felt just awful. I had a terrible headache
(also stopped drinking coffee yesterday), nausea, chills,
sweating…I felt like I had the flu (although no fever). Took some
Advil at bedtime, which helped, but this morning I can feel the
headache creeping back. I drank tons of water yesterday, took my
vitamins, did everything by the book. My question is, was I going
through carb withdrawal? If so, I had no idea it could be this
difficult. I just kept reading that section of the book on withdrawal
that says the worse your withdrawal symptoms are, the more you will
benefit from Atkins! It got me through it.
Thanks,
Betsy

Ive decided that Imgoing to restart this and try again. I had a weight

from cardio to weight training. I want this to work. Just help me keep my head
up and not quit. Thanks all…If I dont see a change. Im going to post my

I’ve been naughty

Wednesday, July 30th, 2003

Hi, My name is Lou. I started the Atkins diet June 6th. I got wieghed at the
dr.s office on June 30th, and I had lost 8 pounds. I’ve been doing pretty good,
I have cheated a few times but nothing major. I haven’t ate in the last 2 days
but have been drinking lots of water and diet rite soda. Well tonight we had
pizza and after everyone went to bed I ate the last piece, which was a fairly
good size piece. I was so stuffed before I finished it but kept right on going.
Then I ate 4, yes 4, poptarts. I felt so sick so I drank a large glass of water
hoping it would cause me to puke. But as I set here in pain and I’m about to
blow, I wonder what causes people to do this to thierself. It will really make
me think twise before I lose control again. There is absolutly nothing I can do
to burn that many calories and carbs off. Please think twise before you cheat
and over do it. Take it from me, it’s not worth the pain. Help Lord the Devil
wants me fat. Lou

to those of you ready to quit and feeling frustrated

Wednesday, July 30th, 2003

I am new to the diet too… I will weigh for the first time tomorrow after
being on it for a week… My opinion now is that I will stay on it no
matter how miniscule the loss I may have (hoping for the best, but aware
from the posts here that it just may not happen) because I feel so darn much
better.. If I do not feel hungry all the time and have absolutely no
cravings (mine were always for meat and eggs rather than sweets before
starting this) I know that will lose what I want eventually… And in the
mean time I am really enjoying what I can now eat… **S**
Best of luck to everyone…

Stalled weight loss and great news on blood tests

Wednesday, July 30th, 2003

Hi - I’m in week 6 of Atkins Induction and have stalled out for 4
weeks at 10 lbs loss. However I had my annual blood tests done last
week, and the results I got today made me absolutely sure that Atkins
is the right WOE for me. My total cholesterol dropped from 238 to
167 (amazing, right?), my triglicerides from 190 to 71 (astounding,
right?), and my blood sugar from 155 to 103. No more borderline
diabetes for me! So, my treat to myself was an extra serving of
sugar-free jello and whipped cream! At least I know that controlling
my carbs can and did make a major difference in my blood test
results. So what if the pounds are not dropping off like everyone
else’s? I can live healthier, even if I’ll still be a woman of
substance.
BTW, I have been drinking Glacieu’s Smart Water (favorite flavor:
raspberry lime) - 0 calories, 0 carbs, no sweeteners at all. I found
them at Trader Joe’s for 89 cents. My local supermarket sells them
for $1.59. I find that the little bit of flavor helps me drink more
water during worktime.
I’ve checked out the other flavored waters at Walmart and Meijer’s,
and they are flavored with aspartame - so they are not allowed on
Atkins.
There are two brands flavored with Splenda: Crystal Bay (found them
at Costco) and Fruit2O (made by Veryfine) - these are sweeter and I
found they just trigger my craving for something to eat, so I try to
limit my consumption of these.
For those who want to give up, please don’t. Be patient with this
WOE and with yourselves. You can succeed on Atkins - it may not be
fast but you will see positive changes in your health.

well all. thanks for all of your concern. It REALLY helps. After
reading more on the website, i am going to try to do the fast for the
week as it recommends. I should be able to do it as i really have a
small appetite lately. The only problem is their isn’t many choices
and i don’t like caviar or pate which is one of the few choices. but
i will make the most out of what i can eat. Wish me well!!!! ThANKS
