Hi from a Newbie

Tuesday, October 28th, 2003

Hi
I am Cory, I live in Victoria BC.
I just joined this morning.. I am starting induction today..
Emptying the fridge and taking it over to my grandbabies.. I have
done Susan Summers Program and lost 24 lbs. I have done many other
programs out there,, but who hasn’t.. Now I am serious about this so
here I am.. I want to get to my desired weight by Christmas.. I know
I can do it with your help.. I start everything out great guns and
then somewhere along the way start to lose my focus.. I also want to
switch my hubby over to this way of life.. I know he would have a
harder time of it than I as his snacking at night is way out of hand.
Anyways.. The biggest problem I have is finding Atkins or low carb
products up here in Canada.. So pretty much everything will have to
be from scratch.. I did find a great recipe center for Atkins
lifestyle.. Lots of induction recipes..

Anyways.. Off to start my day.. Talk to you all later

Jello Sugar Free cups

Monday, October 27th, 2003

I received this note from Atkins customer service on jello:
Yes, you may have diet gelatin desserts on Atkins, however be careful
about the amount you have. Most contain aspartame, which has been shown
to stimulate insulin production, and insulin is the fat storing hormone.
Instead, please try the following recipe we developed in the Atkins
Kitchen:
Cranberry-Raspberry Gelatin Dessert
Almost as easy as store bought packaged gelatin, and a lot fresher
tasting.
2 packets unflavored gelatin
1/2 cup water
2 cups Light Cranberry Juice Cocktail
1/2 cup Atkins Sugar Free Raspberry or Strawberry Syrup
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
1. Place gelatin in a large bowl. Bring water to a boil. Pour water over
gelatin; stir until dissolved. Add cranberry juice, Atkins syrup, and
lemon juice. Mix well. Divide mixture in 6 dessert glasses. Chill until
gelled, about 3 hours.
Servings: 6
Prep time: 10 minutes
Chill time: 3 hours

You may use our Sugar-Free Cherry Syrup as well. Enjoy!

Digest Number 239

I highly recommend reading this section of the Atkins website and the
whole website for that matter, it will answer your questions about the
snack bars. Pamie G.

Digest Number 237, Message 15

Monday, October 27th, 2003

Good advice, feministjenny, about not comparing ourselves to others. (First
point in establishing good self-esteem, by the way.) Newcomers/disappointed
Atkins followers need to tape your message to the computer to remember to
keep on keeping on when not losing every week, and to check with doctors
about medical problems and quitting meds. Success to all of us…Barbara

Caffeine addicts anonymous

Monday, October 27th, 2003

Peggy, I feel the same way about my coffee that you do. I use heavy cream
in mine now that I’m on induction, but will go back to half and half in 2 or
3 weeks. Just count the carbs that are in half and half. I drink iced and
hot tea too. I have problems with headaches when I go off caffeine
completely and I’m losing OK.

Reactivating sugar cravings…

Monday, October 27th, 2003

I wondered if anyone else experienced something like this. I think
I ‘reactivated’ my sweet cravings… OK, I am a carb addict, no
question. I also have a killer ’sweet tooth’ - always have, probably
always will.
Anyway, I was doing really well to begin with, not consuming ANYTHING
that was even remotely on the ‘no no’ list. I stopped caffeine,
didn’t drink any diet sodas, etc. Nothing sweet, nothing even sweet
tasting (with the artificial sweeteners) Cold turkey baby. Yeah,
I went through withdrawl, but I stuck it out without any aspirin and
I was over it in 3-4 days.
I was doing pretty darn good, but then I think I made a mistake (for
me). I started to consume diet pops. One ever couple of days, then
it was one a day, and now I am drinking several a day - all with
Splenda in it. I’ve fallen off the wagon since this point, and have
consumed items with some sugar in them. I am in full blown sugar
cravings. I just finished arguing with myself for an hour, talking
myself out of hopping in my car and driving to Dairy Queen for some
icecream!
Even though I was consuming pop sweetened with Splenda, my tastebuds
started to crave more and more sweet things. Has this happened to
anyone else?
I guess I need to start over from the beginning, and not even allow
myself the diet pops.
sweet things in my diet. Live and learn…

Question! numbers…

Sunday, October 26th, 2003

I have seen some people listing their ‘numbers’, which looks like:
271/260/175 What do they mean?
(I feel stupid for asking…)
