feel good

Tuesday, December 30th, 2003

today is day 8 and I am down 9 lbs and finally feeling a bit more energetic.
Swam laps at lunch and then enjoyed 2 cups spinach with 2 oz provolone cheese, 2
T ranch dressing and 3 oz tuna and felt satisfied. Had a atkins shake for
breakfast as I got up late an did not have time to cook.
I printed out the acceptable foods list and will keep it with me….re read
the rules of induction and think I am understanding it better.
I thouroughly enjoyed 2 lamb chops this weekend as my family hates lamb and the
store I shop at finally got in small packages of chops…cooked them on the
George foreman and it was nice to enjoy them with broccolli and butter.
I have been getting plenty of water and when my sweet tooth acted up I had a
glass of crytal light and that took care of it. Now that I can get some
exercise again as I just got a cast off and am healing from a stress fracture in
my foot, I feel better and can even feel ab muscles getting tighter under this
flab layer!!!!
I amlearning alot from reading the posts here so thanks and keep sending tps
and advice to us newbies!!!

Intoduction and questions

Tuesday, December 30th, 2003

Hi, recently joined this list and thought I should introduce myself. I’m Julie
and I started induction Aug. 11th. I am 4′ 10″, weighed 164 when I started
induction. I would like to get down to 110 pounds. The first week on induction
I lost 5 pounds. Since then I have only lost 1pound. The strange thing is the
first week I wasn’t as strict with myself , and I lost more. I was consuming
more carbs. that week(still under 20). Since then, I have been eating strictly
meat, seafood, eggs, cheese, and 1 or 2 small salads each day. I also started
taking Wellbutrin on the 5th day of induction. I had previously been on Paxil
and know that was part of my weight gain. Will I actually lose more if I eat 20
carbs a day? I’ve seen this recommended to some people and was wondering if
this will realy help. I am afraid of gaining the weight back. I really want
this way of eating to work.
I also had a hysterectomy about 8 years ago. Do you think this is part of the
problem?
My husband is doing Atkins also, but he is not a slave to the scale like I am.
He has lost 6 pounds as of last week. He may have lost more by now.
Does anyone have any suggestions on brands of mayonaisse that are okay? Most of
the jars I pick up say no carbs. but have some type of sugar listed in the
ingredients.
Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions you can share.
Julie

Just checking in!

Tuesday, December 30th, 2003

Just want to update everyone and keep myself accountable!
I started on May 29th.. and I am still doing induction because I am
happy with it. I’ve lost TWENTY EIGHT pounds and am happier
than I even imagined! I feel WONDERFUL! I’ve got a long way to go, but I
used to think this would take years.. now I’m motivated!!!
For those of you feeling sickly at the start, DON’T give up!!
THe sicker you feel, the more you needed to “detox” as I call it.
I was sick for a week, sluggish feeling for two. I only lost 9 lbs the first
two weeks. I don’t seem to lose steadily, I go in spurts. I will sit still
for two weeks, then suddenly drop 4 pounds all at once.
So HANG IN THERE! This IS the miracle diet we’ve been waiting for!!

My wife is also overweight, but is also diabetic! Would it be safe
for her to try?
G–
I am new to atkins but had tried other carb controlled diets– Yes they do
work. As far as your wife is concerned– from what I understand from my Snow
Bunny— Atkins is the way to go– he kept his diabetes under control and also
got off all meds as long as he follows the diet.
BTW– I want to go to Ireland so badly– roots there–

I haven’t tried the mint one by the Chocolate Truffle by Pure De-
light is to die for. The middle tastes like chocolate frosting. Not
to be eaten everyday but yes when you have the need they are perfect!
And at wal-mart only .99!

Depends on how much you indulge. You do have a few choices. There is
that new low carb beer that is about 3 carbs a bottle. I believe its
called Miller Ultra. Atkins says that straight alcohols like rum and
vodka don’t count as carbs so you can also have that mixed with a
diet coke.
Stay away from any drink that is made from a mix. These have all
kinds of carbs in them.
Good luck on your date!

I thought alcohol was off limits on induction? I would love my one glass of
wine a night or my vodka—Am I wrong?
