Intoduction and questions

Hi, recently joined this list and thought I should introduce myself. I’m Julie
and I started induction Aug. 11th. I am 4′ 10″, weighed 164 when I started
induction. I would like to get down to 110 pounds. The first week on induction
I lost 5 pounds. Since then I have only lost 1pound. The strange thing is the
first week I wasn’t as strict with myself , and I lost more. I was consuming
more carbs. that week(still under 20). Since then, I have been eating strictly
meat, seafood, eggs, cheese, and 1 or 2 small salads each day. I also started
taking Wellbutrin on the 5th day of induction. I had previously been on Paxil
and know that was part of my weight gain. Will I actually lose more if I eat 20
carbs a day? I’ve seen this recommended to some people and was wondering if
this will realy help. I am afraid of gaining the weight back. I really want
this way of eating to work.
I also had a hysterectomy about 8 years ago. Do you think this is part of the
problem?
My husband is doing Atkins also, but he is not a slave to the scale like I am.
He has lost 6 pounds as of last week. He may have lost more by now.
Does anyone have any suggestions on brands of mayonaisse that are okay? Most of
the jars I pick up say no carbs. but have some type of sugar listed in the
ingredients.
Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions you can share.
Julie

    Hi Julie!
I can’t answer all the question, but I might be able to help with some
things. I don’t know how many carbs you are consuming in a day, but
if it is TOO LITTLE, your body will react as if it is starving, and
weight loss could slow down or stop. Try to get to that 20 carb
mark. Also, check portion sizes. Even though you are allowed
protein, try to not consume more than 6 - 8 oz at each meal. For
some people, your body will react to excess protein with a raise in
bloodsugar - as if you consumed carbs. Now, I don’t know about
Wellbutrin - does anyone know if this is a drug that may slow down
the weightloss? Besides that - drink all your water!

I am eating less than 20 carbs a day. I would say between 5-10 carbs a day.
I’ll try eating between 15 and 20, maybe that will help. I was afraid I would
not lose if I ate those carbs.

Wow, I had no idea. I will definitely watch this. I know a couple of times I
ate more than 6 to 8 oz of meat. What about seafood? I live near New Orleans,
and we eat a lot of seafood. Should I limit this as well?
I was using the “old” Atkins New Diet Revolution”. I bought the newest revision
last night. I’ll will be reading it to see where else I may be going wrong.
    Thanks for the answers.

I couldn’t find that in the book anywhere. But I have been keeping meats
under 6 oz at a time.

I have a hard time getting 20 carbs in also. I don’t really like to many of
the veggies! I like cauliflower and Lettuce and that is about the extent of
    it. Sharon

I really have no idea about seafood - I don’t eat it.
FOr those of you that are trying to “up” your carb count to 20 grams,
how are you achieving this? Are you adding servings of low carb
veggies, are you adding higher carb items, are you reducing your
protein intake so that your hunger won’t be curbed as much? It seems
like several of you have gone through this or are dealing with it
right now - what has worked for you?

I don’t believe the 6-80z of meat is written in the Atkins book
anywhere. I think it can be found on the website though.

You need to get as close as you can or your body will think its
starving..You can eat more cheese 3-4oz..eggs, Whipping cream..cream cheese
on celery, sour cream, stuff like that might help..
