Question on cheese

Saturday, January 31st, 2004

Hi–
I have some cheese that says for one ounce 0 carbs– not less than 1 g 0
carbs– do I not count it or do I count it even though it has 0 carbs?

Starvation Mode

Saturday, January 31st, 2004

You would only induce starvation mode if you were on a very low
calorie diet as well as no carb. It is possible to have a 0 carb day
but with 3000 calories. If you have fat to burn from the body, the
body will simply use that supply for fuel.

not really new.. just quiet so a ‘late’ introduction of myself ;)

Thursday, January 29th, 2004

Hi all fellow low carbers!! :)I’m on what feels like my hundredth (a
word? lol) shot at Atkins.. Everytime though, by my 2nd day I’m
so ‘foggy’ (I just can’t think right.. almost similar to the feeling
when you’re TOO drunk- not just really drunk, but TOO drunk). I’m a
911 dispatcher, so i can’t afford any hesitations in my thought
process.. Even a momentary hesitation can be the difference in life
or death for one of our officers/firefighters or callers.. In the
past, I’ve stuck with the diet for up to 2 weeks and the shaky,
dizzy feeling all the time and constant brain fog don’t go away
(which leads me to believe it’s more than just carb withdrawl..)
Anyone have any ideas?? Even though I feel so sluggish and ‘heavy’ I
can barely walk (my muscles just ache terribly) I try to exercise
but the dizziness and lightheadedness are so bad i literally fall
off the side of the treadmill!! :( I’m taking a multi-vitamin and drinking lots of water! What could I
be doing wrong???? Any help or thoughts are greatly appreciated :) Thanks all- and it’s good to meet you :) Dawna

New to the list

Wednesday, January 28th, 2004

Hi everyone!
I am glad I looked for a list and this seems to be exactly what I need.
Three years ago, I wanted to lose weight and my brother-in-law told me how he
was successful losing with high protein-low carbs and what he gave up to
lose. So I jumped in and started the Atkins, reading both the Atkins book and
the
Protein Power book. I lost 30 pounds and stalled but maintained for a year
and a half. Then I got careless and sloppy and gained it back. This July 8th,
I decided to go back on Atkins and have stuck to it except for some salsa,
chips and a margarita the middle of August. I have only lost 15 pounds since
July 8 but I can see it in my clothes. I have lost two sizes in pants and I can
just feel the difference in my body. I am drinking the water 90% of the
time, eating 3 times a day and watching the intake of carbs in the salads and
veggies. I have been indulging in sugar free popsicles which are 3 carbs each.
I
would just like to get over the plateau I have been on for 3 weeks. I can do
only limited walking as I have a bad knee, though I might have to risk the
knee for the plateau. I snack on beef jerky, I eat protein and fruit
(strawberries or cantelope) for breakfast, steak, turkey or chicken usually for
lunch
and dinner. It is hard to stick with any diet when you plateau and are
discouraged. I know the size change meaans a lot but I just wanted support!!

Popcorn…

Wednesday, January 28th, 2004

I’m new to this group so I don’t know if you folks have already
discussed it or not … but what’s the scoop on popcorn? I’ve found
a few sites that say it’s about 6 grams of carbs per cup, but is that
a popped or un-popped cup? It makes a big difference of course! My
workplace has it’s own free popcorn machine (like you would see at
the movies) and I’m in the habit of munching in the afternoon …
should I stop? Thanks!

Newbie ..Induction day 6

Wednesday, January 28th, 2004

Hello everyone, thought I would introduce myself. I’m Stacey I’m 29 and I
live in Central IL. I have 2 beautiful daughters and a husband of 12 years. I
started Atkins Sept 2 and I’m totally amazed. I’ve been on every diet you can
imagine since I was 8 years old. I’ve already lost 6 pounds! I’m just
without words, and my parents can’t see how I’m loosing eating all those sinful
meats, cheeses, and butter…LOL (to be honest I don’t see how either..LOL but
it
does make sense to me.) As many people know, low fat high carb diets never
work long term, or they didn’t for me anyway..lol I don’t feel deprived, and I
haven’t had any cravings..knock on wood.
Couple Questions:
1. How exactly do you definitely figure carbs? I’ve read the book, but I’m
unsure about it…
2. How do I know if I’ve actually gone into Ketosis? I’m assuming weight loss
is a sign? (or is it “water” weight like when you normally start any diet?”
Thanks
Stacey
Start Weight: 341
Current Wt: 335
Mini Goal : 300
Long Term: 150ish? not sure yet, but I’ll know when I get there…

2 days into the diet

Wednesday, January 28th, 2004

I’ll tell you I’m having the same questions…but I’ve been on the diet for 6
days and I’ve lost 6 pounds…and I have no clue how..LOL I think we are
just so programmed to think that meats, butters, and cheeses are a sin, and now
that we are giving this a whirl, it seems impossible to loose…but we are! My
dad is amazed. I’ve kept to 20 carbs a day, 128 oz water a day, and kept my
calories around 1800. It’s wonderful so far….My husband has lost 5 pounds.
I haven’t had any cravings either, which is very odd..lol
knock on wood…. :0)

Should I move into OWL?

Saturday, January 24th, 2004

Hi there,
I have 18 pounds left to lose. I’ve been on induction for about a
month and a half. I lose 1-4 pounds/week. How much time should I
leave to go through all the phases of this diet? I’m not bored with
induction or anything, so do you think it would be wise to stay on
induction a bit longer or move over to OWL? I, of course, want to
follow the diet correctly but also want to lose weight the quickest
way. By the way, I have lost almost 60 pounds total in about 10
months, the last 25 have been with Atkins.
Thanks!
Jen
