Back to basics!

And what better reason to have a cheat. In today’s world it is quite an
achievement to stay married for that long! I have been so very good up to
this moment and do not intend to cheat again until next year September, when
my son and I will visit our hubby and dad in Dubhai! I want to weigh 130
pds by then! So 40lbs need to be shed. Shooo! That’s a lot! But I will
do it, I WILL! Even if I have to stay on Induction all the time (with a
bi-weekly cheat of course ;-) Have a good one Sharon!

Starting Induction today and looking for help!

Saturday, October 30th, 2004

I’ve started the atkins induction today. I’m looking for some tips
and tricks to help get me through the first few days/weeks. What
types of things are you eating or recipes that you love? My brother
lost a lot of weight using Atkins and has kept most of it off. I’ve
been hearing of so many people just dropping wieght like crazy and
I’m really hoping it works as well for me. I just had my second
child and I know I’m a carb junkie. I gained a ton of wieght with
both my preganancies and just ahven’t been able to get it off. Any
help or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Oh and does anyone know
of a site that I can keep track of my weight, inches etc?
TIA!
Kelli

Water Consumption Per Capita

Saturday, October 30th, 2004

I just love trivia and have happily accepted this little tempest as
a challenge.
My source is a report by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
and it can be found online at this link:
http://www.epa.gov/waterscience/drinking/percapita/
So…. for the record, 90% of Americans consume approximately 2.016
liters of drinking water daily, or about 68 US fluid ounces.
And I, for one, pay approximately $400 per year for the privilege of
having clean drinking water readily available at my tap for
consumption and use in my home.
Sincerely,
Joy in Minnesota where the Red, White and Blue don’t run, not even
in water.

Thickening Agents

Friday, October 29th, 2004

I have been working on adapting recipes from a number of sources and have
been using two thicking agents, Guar Gum and Xanthan Gum, in place of starch
and flour. However, I don’t really understand the differences between these
two items and their use. Can anyone help?

WHEW! It’s almost over…

Friday, October 29th, 2004

For some reason this was a tough holiday…I think because my
roommate who is not on Atkins…brings home Goodies.although I do
have to say she is thoughtful about it in certain ways…We
celebrated her birthday and my kids bought her a nice cake..which
she chose to leave at my daughters instead of having it staring me
in the face everyday…she went to her sisters for dinner yeterday
and broughtME home Ricotta pie which would be fine except its made
with sugar…..Oh well…today is a new day and I had scramble eggs
for breakfast and for lunch I am going to have a grilled
cheese/Atkins bread….and a slice of haam..chrystal light
drink..Ilike mixing the flvors..and I drink H2O all day……I have
a cooler and “BUY” *wink* spring water…..I am going to make Polska
Kielbasa with Cabbage..before Atkins I would add potatoes but no
more maybe I will add cauliflower..I cut into slices and brown in
just a little olive oil add water and dill then the cabbage and
cauliflower…Thats it and have some Jello….Joan eats what I cook
so thats good..my Grandkids hate it because I have no junk carbs in
the house anymore they have to bring there own.LOL

Thursday, October 28th, 2004

Good morning to all My Name is Barbara I am from Mass. some people
already know me on this group..I posted a few days ago and haven’t
since..I YoooHoooed for someone to return to the group…the people
who REALLY know me know that I am known for calling people back who
are MIA..for what ever reason…It caused some remarks from people
who thought I was stirring up the pot so to speak!!LOL…I have been
lurking and reading the posts..this is my opinion about the
situation…
We have to remember this is the internet and we can not SEE
or HEAR..a smile or laughter when someone is responding to a
message..Yes there are people who come across what some call rude…
but to continue on and on about it is giving it a lot of power..
I love this WOE and last night Chritmas Eve was HARD…I have
to confess that I did go off a tad..
Now I see this word rules being spoken of..I don’t like rules
never did.LOL For me its “one day at a time” I don’t beat myself
because of last night…I try to live one day at a time..There is a
saying where I hang out..(AA)If you have one foot in tommorow and
one foot in yesterday you PEE all over today!!!
Enjoy life to the fullest remember its program over personality’s
there are no leaders no one person has all the answers..everyone is
here for the same reason to lose weight and get HEALTHY!!!!
We don’t have to Liked one another but we should try to
love and understand the person who is struggling to put down the
CARBS,,,,……….Your Friend Barbara from Massachusetts
Have a wonder-Filled Day….

Ouch! on drinking water comment

Thursday, October 28th, 2004

As I sit here drinking my morning cup of coffee (decaff of course) I think
this is a tempest in a teapot (decaff of course). I can see nothing wrong
in asking probing questions of why we are doing something. This is not a
religion with mystical truths; it is supposed to be science. I have read
Atkins statments about water, I have seen the studies showing little
difference in the effect on body hydration of water and decaffinatd
beverages, and I am also curious why Atkins made the statement. Therefore,
why don’t we address the real issue — the scientific basis for drawing the
distinction, if any — rather than personalizing it. BTW, I would be very
curious as to the answer.
