“Eat Liberally from this list”?

Wednesday, December 29th, 2004

I must be missing something. Myself, my daughter and my husband just
started Atkins today. They are already balking. I’m more determined.
My question is about how much you can eat from the “Eat liberally
list” during induction. I’m thinking we need to follow the induction
menu to the letter the first two weeks. It is skimpy. Are we not
allowed to have boiled eggs and other low carb approved items in
between meals? Or are we allowed to eat those items, but we just have
to make sure it goes towards the count of total carbs (20 being the
max)for the day?
I hope this hasn’t been too confusing. Thanks and Good luck everyone.

Complete list of accetable foods for induction?

Tuesday, December 28th, 2004

Does anyone know where I can find this?
I had some walnuts yesterday, on my first day of induction.. I bet those were
off limits! Other than that, I did great.. Well, I had a headache and
diarrhea, but I think that was from other things, not the diet.

Diet soda

During induction, are you allowed to drink anything other than water? If diet
soda doesn’t have sugar, can you drink that?

Intro and questions

Hello
My name is Scott and my wife Cathy and I are planning a permanent
change in our eating habits for health and weight concerns. We really
like the Atkins high protein diet and are currently eating insane
amounts of carbs. We farm and are more active than most and have thus
far in life managed to keep in sight of our toes. I’m 6′4″ and go 280,
my wife is 5′10″ and goes 220. My wife has always been your typical
corn fed farmgirl and I went through my Marine corps hitch at 204, 20
years ago. We each feel we could drop 60-70 lbs and still look healthy
and be able to man/handle haybales, equipment and critters. We also
live in Central Wisconsin and need to keep warm.
We also really respect natural, uncontaminated, unprocessed, and
chemically free foods. We can even respect vegetarians for their
organic thinking and certainly appreciate fruits and vegetables. We
recently purchased a juicer and love experimenting with new coctails.
Is there a way to blend the juices into the atkins diet. We don’t
feel we have a metabolism problem as much as we eat way too much in as
little as one decent meal per day.
We have never paid attention to carbs and calories, we have
typically , regained our clothing sizes by cutting out 2nd’s and 3rd
helpings. Is their an easy way to get a handle on our daily intake. A
computer program would be great, since I like puters a lot more tahn I
like labels.
We are hoping to straighten our act out and regain a little
vigor. We have cancer histories in our families, are uninsured, and
believe firmly in our own immune systems and prevention rather than
pill doctors and radiation. These are our biggest motivators, and have
seen too many times, what naturally bolstered immune systems can do in
our animals. These are our goals and motivators. Does it sound like
atkins theology applies?
Thanks
Scott and Cathy

Hi everyone!!!

Sunday, December 26th, 2004

Hi everyone! I have just started the induction phase. I seem to have
a lot of trouble with the cravings. I work 11pm-7am and all I want
to do is eat. I am trying really hard, but sometimes I just don’t
make it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get past this? I
finally made it the first full day yesterday.
Thanks
Callie

Something I wanted to share

Saturday, December 25th, 2004

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to share my own little story in hopes that somewhere
someone may possible find some strength and encouragement.
I started the Atkins WOE in Sept of 2002. I lost 98 pounds the first
year. I followed the book closely. Then I went into a MAJOR plateau for 5
WHOLE MONTHS but I was losing inches and never any poundage….everyone kept
saying “you are still losing inches so you are still doing something
right….hang
in there” ….after the 5th month of not cheating and not losing any weight,
I started getting very tired all the time. I started to feel weak….all I
wanted to do was sleep.
So I did a few of the things mentioned on this group…..I tried the
fat fast, I tried the meat fast and I tried a few other things…..BUT the thing
that helped me the most is that I started using fitday. When I started
that….it was amazing!! I found out I was eating 800-900 calories a day and
eating
very little protein. I realized that for months my body had been in the
starvation mode. Although I was losing inches…..this was from Muscle atropy
and
that all my food I was eating was turned into glycogen which, of course,
later turned into fat.
Hard to imagine but this is true but it took me almost two months to
reverse it. It has been seven months since I had any real significant weight
loss….until now.
Before I got fitday I remember being fixed on the Carb count….totally
focused on the Carbs…nothing else!
So for the last two months I logged in and kept my calroies to my BMR
(Basal metabolism rate) and kept my fat at 65%, my protein to 30% and carbs
about 5%. Mind you that to get your body into a starvation mode it takes about
30-40 days of eating below your BMR (atleast that is what my DR says)…so it
was no surprise that it would take some time to reverse it.
Finally after discovering I was in the starvation mode and trying to
reverse it….it took me two months….but what I did was this ( am convinced
this is what got me out of the starvation mode)…..I ate carbs for three whole
days ( by carbs I mean 100’s of carbs each day)….then for the following
three I went into a meat fast (nothing but unprocessed meat)….then I went back
on the induction. Since I have done this….in one whole week I have lost 8
pounds!! I also now have my energy back and have that great euphoria like I had
when I started Atkins WOE back in Sept of 2002.
Anyways, I just wanted to share this with you all in hopes that it
might help someone else.
