Lisa…on being on antidepressants

Hi Lisa, you summed the program up in a nutshell when you said you feel much
better since eating lower carb. I found that the healthy feeling I have when
I’m not over-carbing my system is worth more than anything else about this way
of eating. I lost 37 pounds in 4 months (lots of garden work for exercise) and
simple meals, no added Atkins products or similar foods. Just pure foods, such
as eggs, meats, and salads. I drank decaf coffee and colas, and strawberries in
season. AND continued my 10mg oxazepam daily, along with a daily vitamin and
calcium tablets.
Now that I’m not gardening, and pretty much inactive for the winter months, I’m
stalled. When I tried to add the candy bars, etc. (bought while on vacation in
California), they only brought back the cravings for sugar. My weight goes up
and down 2-3 lbs due to excess water, but my clothes are 2 sizes smaller, and my
irritable bowel syndrone is totally gone. Each of us is different, so no one
way works as we attempt to alter the Atkins program a bit. (Hopefully, each of
us has the book to go along with our new lifestyle…just the website won’t do
as none of us are the expert that Dr Atkins is/was. BUT if a doctor has
prescribed medicines for a particular reason, i.e. anti-depressants, work with
him/her on coming off of them. As a therapist, I’d rather my patients lose
weight slowly, and keep on needed medications, as to quitting the meds and the
depression getting worse JUST for a speedy weight loss. Mental health is as
important as physical health. Do we who use medication have a harder time? Not
so much harder, IMO, but a slower time. Good luck,
