While we salute New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg for his kooky,
flippant comments about how diet guru Dr. Robert Atkins really died,
Hizzoner’s speculation is not supported by the doc’s death certificate.

Travelling Help

Thursday, March 31st, 2005

Hello all.
I am going out of town for the weekend to an indoor water park. I know food
will be difficult, so wanted to make some of the egg/sausage/cheese “muffins”
to take along to just zap in the in-room microwave for my breakfast. How many
carbs should I count as each one?
Also, I’m wondering what makes good snacks - there will be about 30 of us
sitting around, and I just don’t feel comfortable pulling out my bag of pork
rinds - does anyone have any good, easy ideas that can be transported?
Lastly, next Tuesday I will be done with my 2 week induction. I haven’t gone
off the diet yet, even though I have only lost 4 pounds, so I don’t want to
mess up this weekend. I have only been drinking water - I’m not a hot beverage
person, and love my Diet Coke, but have stayed away for almost two weeks now.
I’m wondering about alcohol - the book says hard alcohol like gin and vodka
are ok with 0 carbs — I’m more of a dacquiri, mai tai, wine drinker, so could
someone recommend any drinks using the hard alcohol that would be acceptable
on induction? (thinking I might be in a mood to enjoy a few!)
thanks!

splenda question

Wednesday, March 30th, 2005

Hi,
We are making the lemon cheesecake recipe and it calls for 2 packets of
splenda. I have the regular mix that isn’t in packets. Does anyone know the
equivalent measurement?
Thanks,

Mayo Digest Number 582

Wednesday, March 30th, 2005

Mayo is where reading the ingredients list is important. Yes 99% of them
still have sugar on the label.
Duke’s mayo is the only one I have found with out sugar.
Here are some others that might help.
1. Newman’s own, Olive oil and vinaigrette is one of the salad dressings
that have no sugar.
2. Mount Olive makes sweet pickles made with splenda.
One other thing Atkins is a free web site used for his low carb diet plans
they sent me an e-mail today and said they have not changed there eating
plan since 1970 and it ain’t gonna change anytime soon.
Thanks,
Jean

My 3rd day on Induction

Tuesday, March 29th, 2005

I just had to share this with everyone, but it is a little gross. I
started my induction on Sunday, and starting Monday I had really bad
gas and was constipated. Last night, I pretty much over dosed on
laxatives until I could go and I lost 5 pounds! I weighed myself on
Sunday, and it read 230. I weighed myself Tuesday morning, and it
read 227. I weighed myself last night, after taking care of my
problem, and I weighed 221. Go figure! Who would have thought that
being constipated and gassy would make you weigh so much. Just
wanted to share that with everyone, just in case someone gets
discouraged about not losing enough weight…consider when the last
time you had a B.M.

I thought the long green beans and stir fried veggies would be lovely
for a meal. Going back now to check on carbs.
My green beans are waiting to be cooked.

Newbie - Question about weight loss

Monday, March 28th, 2005

Linda … most steroids will cause you to stall … also some steroids will
cause your body to “hoard”fat in your tissues … I have never heard of
Amaryl … but premarin is a steroid … if you start using=ng a lot of soy
with Atkins ( much of the cereals and breads for Atkins are soy based) you
may want to let your doc know they may want to adjust the Premarin so you
do not become estrogen dominant . There is a chapter in Atkins book that
specifically addresses these types of drugs.

Newbie - Question about weight loss

Monday, March 28th, 2005

Good Morning All,
I started this eating plan on Sunday and currently on my 4th day, my
scale haven’t moved at all. Since I need to lose 110 lbs, I thought
I would have lost at least 1 pound.
I need to inform you guys that I am on several medicines:
I am type 2 diabetic - so I am taking 100 units of insulin twice a day
Here is the rest of my medicines: .625mg Premarin, 2.5mg Lisinopril
and 4mg Amaryl.
Here is my question, since I am taking these medicines, will they
stop any weight loss for me?
I am drinking my water, and limiting my carb (veg and salad greens)
to 15-20 grams.
Thanks,
Linda
