is week 3/4 a plateau for most?

Wednesday, September 21st, 2005

Hi,
I am in the 4th week of the diet. I lost about 8-9 pounds the first
two weeks then.. nothing.. not a bit.. even appear to go up 1/2 a
pound. No hormonal time of the month things are affecting this.
I am still basically in induction. In the first two weeks, I
probably only had about 10 carbs a day.. I am closer to the 20 or so
the last couple of weeks.. My liposticks are purple!
I am frustrated.. after a week w/no weight loss, I even reduced my
food intake to one meal a day and one atkins bar for Friday, Saturday
and Sunday!.. No budge on the scale, in fact, I was 3 pounds heavier
on Monday… (well.. maybe the country ham on Sunday had something to
do w/that).. But today.. tuesday.. I am 1/2 pounds heavier than I was
a little more than a week ago..
I am NOT cheating.. I gave up caffiene the first week.. and only
occasionally have a diet soda w/it like maybe 2-3 times since I
stopped drinking it.
I’m not drinking beer.. not eating sausage w/hidden carbs.. not
adding sauces.. I eat plain meat.. maybe w/a slice of cheese! I have
been eating one small 1 cup salad at lunch w/blue cheese dressing..
no bad veggies.. mostly just iceberg lettuce. I may eat one searving
of macadamia nuts in the evening… 7-10 nuts.
That is it! is it just a stupid plateau? Im not eating large
amounts. One hamburger patty..etc.. I am very careful about what I
put in my mouth.. I read packaging religiously. I just am getting
frustrated!
I am holding steady at 156… my goal is 135..
Would love to know if this is normal!

Where is Barbara?

Wednesday, September 21st, 2005

Hi Rosie….Thanks for missing me…I was going through a bad ‘head’ time, and
wasn’t on the computer after I got it working again. You made my day, wondering
about me, and I really appreciate that concern.
As to how I got to Holland..the short version is that I met my husband on a
cruise in Germany, and after 4 years of dating between California and Holland,
decided to move here and get married.
I’ll participate more now that the sun is out and some of the depressive
thinking is gone. It is difficult keeping “up” when I read about Walmart, and
all of the other places in USA. We drove two hours the other day to a Subway;
sadly, they did not have the wraps, but I did have a bunless sandwich. Yummy.
A very popular bread here is suiker brood(sugar bread). It is 69 carbs a slice,
with 49 being pure sugar. Yikes!!!
More later, hello to all of the newbies, and success to everyone. Barbara in
Holland

I never could find any bacon without sodium nitrate either. I was told that
the reason no sodium nitrate is because it can cause cancer if eaten in big
amounts. I never worried about that before so I don’t worry about it now. I
don’t eat bacon everyday though.
Secondly, I already had some Sugar Free Jello (The kind already made)
in my refrigerator. Can this be eaten after the induction period
I ate sugar free jello everyday the first 2 weeks of atkins. It got me
through the rough times. Sharon

My wife and I are starting the adkins diet today, under the advice
of her physician. We are supposed to stay on it for 3 months. I
will let her register herself. Are there any good sites for
reciepes? I have the Diet revolution book already.

New to the Diet and Need your input:)

Tuesday, September 20th, 2005

Hi
My name is Tanya and I am new to the Atkins Diet. Today is actually
my first day. I have some questions that I need answers to and
thought possibly some of you could help me with these.
I am having a difficult time finding something to eat for Breakfast.
I have looked over and over for bacon with no nitrates and have been
unsuccessful in finding any and have gone to various supermarket
chains to try and find some. I did find bacon with NO sugar but I
simply cannot find any without sodium nitrate. Is it a definite NO NO
to eat bacon with sodium nitrate in the induction period? I am not a
fan of eggs either so this is definitely the hardest meal I can find
something to eat.
Secondly, I already had some Sugar Free Jello (The kind already made)
in my refrigerator. Can this be eaten after the induction period? It
does have Aspartame in it.
I bought shrimp to add into the diet, is Boiled Shrimp with all the
seasonings ok to eat in the induction stage?
Is there a minimum number of carbs that you need to intake each day?
The reason I ask this, is I am finding it hard to come close to the
number of carbs (20) that is said to intake per day. Is it ok if its
only 10-15?
Is there anything you can snack on during induction other than cheese?
Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

….about salads

Can I do induction without eating salad? I HATE it. Am I the only one? Lisa

Hi! I am new!

Tuesday, September 20th, 2005

Hi!
My name is Angie.. I am 34 and I have been on Atkins for 11 days. The 1st week
was bumpy.. natrually. But really the only probs I had were sleepiness and I had
a migrane for one day on day two. I have the Atkins Journal and I live by it..
It is very nice to be able to take a quick look at all I have eaten thru the day
to know what kind of a yummie or snack I am allowed to have at the end of the
day.
I have lost 9 lbs so far.. over 2 inches in my waist and I have dropped a pants
size as well.
My treat to help me get thru the 1st part ws cherry sugar free jello with a shot
of chocolate rediwhip. Worked for me.. then I found the Atkins bars.. that
worked better!!!! LOL! Many days I dont get but only 12 g of carbs.. so at night
if I dont have enough carbs, I will eat one of the Advantage bars and a cup of
tea.
I have tried them all.. Richard Simmons Diet with no success. I think he is just
a good motivator. His Deal a Meal was a joke for me. Slim Fast I found to be
nothing more than milkshakes and candy bars.. SOUNDS like a good diet though,
hu? LOL!!! Again, just a joke of a diet for me.
I have been overweight since I was 10. I started this program at 205 and size
20. I am going for 130 and a size 8. I am 5′ 7″. I have a BIG convention to go
to in August with about 3000 other people. People that I dont see but maybe
three times a year. I have to get infront of these folks for a small speach. I
want to shock them all.. LOL! I have a stunning sequin sensation that is a size
12 I want to be in by the 1st of Aug to wear when I give my presentation. I have
worn it only once and I must say that it was a hot little number! LOLOL!!
Thanks to Atkins, I have self confidence and energy levels compairable to that
which I had when I was 18 years old. I have two small children and I am able to
keep up with them both now. After reaching my goal weight and size, my husband
and I are going to try again for another baby. I have questions about Atkins
Lifetime Maintenance during pregnancy, but will cross that bridge when it gets
here.
I am a stay at home Mom with a business I run out of my home. So I am tempted
all day with the cookies and yummies that the kids eat.. oddly enough, I have
never been able to turn my back on those cravings until I began Atkins. I
honestly can say that I do not miss the cookies, the Capn’Cruch or even the Dove
chocolates. I know that at the end of the day I can have some of the carb free
chocolate or some Just the Cheese or my Sugar free cherry jello with choc.
rediwhip. I dont miss the rich stuff that I used to lust for.
I wont call Atkins a diet.. diets seem to be only temporary.. this is a way of
life.. a change in eating for the better and I am so very glad I found it. Dr
Atkins sure left his mark on the world, didnt he? :*)
I am curious to know if the Atkins Waffel and Pancake mix is permitted on
induction.. the books are rather vague. I am headed to his site now to see. I am
also curious to know if the Carb Control yogurt is okay to have during
induction.. does anyone know?
I am thrilled to be a part of this life changing plan!
Cheers!

very weird

Tuesday, September 20th, 2005

Hope everyone had a great week. Something weird happened. I thought this list
was very quiet last week. Only received about 20 emails. Went to post an
article about South beach vs Atkins, and it said I was no longer a member!! I
had
to rejoin.

Hello. I am a new member in California and I have just completed my
first week of the induction plan. I must admit that I feel better and
it has been easier than I had anticipated. I have enjoyed all the
information available in this group and wish everyone continued sucess
with this plan and and their goals.
