Noah’s car accident

Friday, October 28th, 2005

Hi Noah…I’m sorry to hear about your car accident and hopefully the
testing done will include something that will help you with your weight
loss. Having an accident while trying to lose weight is no fun (actually, it
isn’t fun at any times, duh…LOL)…but it just adds to the things you have
to consider while losing weight….pain, etc. So, good luck, and I’ll be
pulling for you. Barbara

Hi Barbara,
No she is still on the list. Just told us she unsubbed. She emailed me
offlist and told me I was smart ass!!! GuessI should have waited to call the
ambulance and ansewered her! Oh well. Maybe I should have emailed the list for
medical advice?

I do wish wist tom would remove the lowcarbohydrates .com in the subject. It
would be a major help. Put it in a byline instead.

Oh, Denise, how sad about your mom. My mom fell one time from a ladder
while washing windows, and I’ll never forget the experience. I now am so
careful when I climb(at 66, I’m careful about a lot of things..lol), just
remembering her pain and my feeling of helplessness.
My prayers are with you as you care for your mom, and my thoughts are also
with her. How frightened she must be, having all of these things happening
to her. But how fortunate she is to have you, loving and caring for her.
And making her your priority….good for you!!!
Hugs, as you go through this experience and strength as we all go through
life, supporting and encouraging each other.
Success with your program, and watch the stress level (I know, what a
laugh!). But seriously, that affects our bodies in negative ways, so I send
you a hug of calmness….Barbara in Holland

Thoughts and suggestions for the site..

Thursday, October 27th, 2005

Hi Denise and everyone else….I just got Angie’s crisis email, so was about
to write to cheer her up, when a moment later I read she had unsubed. I feel
sad when people don’t get immediate responses, but this isn’t a
telephone..sometimes the computer runs its own life and does its own thing.
I got a nasty note from a friend of mine yesterday, saying I never answer
her emails, and I honestly have…I guess all of us at times are a bit down,
touchy and needy. I know I am this week, as I had to put my cat to sleep…I
cry everytime a memory comes up, about every hour at this time of writing.
But I know that all of you can’t feel my pain, and I wouldn’t expect you
to….but I do know that those of you who have the time(, or the energy, or
whatever else is needed at the moment) do answer, when possible. All of you
came through for me when I had a silly computer problem…easy enough. But
when it comes to down to medical concerns, most of us are not trained to
answer, and some try to answer (at times, out of their own experience and
not medically).
One suggestion I would add…for those who are not doing strict induction,
who are modifying according to their personalities ( I MUST have this, or
that…etc.), or modifying because they are able to, could maybe put on the
signature line…their name, and then “following a modified induction”
since this site states “atkins diet induction”, which would indicate it is
for inductionees. I think some new people to the site DO get confused…I
did at the beginning, tried some of the things suggested, and gained. It
has taken me a long time to stay with the site and understand all of this,
as new people join and older ones drop out as they go out of induction, or
lurk. Just a thought.. but….I have noticed that the recent new people do
get confused, and we spend a lot of time just explaining ourselves(and
recently arguing more).
Suggestions? Let’s not misuse the site…but could we change subject lines
as we change subjects(I, too, quite reading “Pudding”..messages) …which is
good email etiquette, and could we add a signature (under TOOLS, and then
OPTIONS on the computer) when modifying the induction in the Atkins book. I
personally think these two things would make the site easier to understand,
and not as confusing to those who really are new and looking for help. Just
my opinion…Barbara in Holland

I didn’t type out my “history” but… I can tell you it’s long and lengthy…
and the only time in my life I lose weight is when I’m pregnant… yup… I
drop weight like it’s nothing… and continue to do so until about a month
after the pregnancy is over then it’s like the hormonal shift throws my
metabolism
out the window again…
I do the same thing!!! I am always lighter after the baby is born then when
I got pregnant!!! It is nice. Sharon

question about atkins flavoring syrups?

Wednesday, October 26th, 2005

hi all!
My name is Meg, and i’m brand new to the group…already have a question, LOL :) Do any of you use the Atkins flavoring syrups (the ones with the Splenda)? I
bought 3 bottles (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry) when I started 2 weeks ago,
and I’ve been using them on and off. They are pretty good additions to homemade
shakes, etc. Today I reached for some to doctor up some hot tea, and I noticed
the bottle says “refrigerate after opening” - which I hadn’t been!! AACK! I
immediately put them in the fridge, but they’ve been up and out for over a week.
They weren’t cheap, so I hate to throw them out…they smell and taste ok…all
it is is water, splenda, “natural flavoring”, citric acid, and some type of
preservative…not sure what would go bad…I tend to be overly paranoid about
these things…what do you think? Do the Davinci syrups require refrigeration
as well?
thanks so much!!
Meg, down 6.5 lbs in 2 weeks :)

Hi! New… question and yogurt question w/input if helpful…

Wednesday, October 26th, 2005

I’m looking at beginning Monday…
My question is this… if cream is aloud during Induction… would yogurt
made from cream be ok?
and.. leading into that is my input on yogurt and those with more knowledge
of Atkins etc can address wether it’s good/helpful or “illegal”
My son is on the Specific Carb Diet… part of that diet is making your own
yogurt… so… this is why I ask… if I am making the yogurt from cream that
is allowed during Induction… is that ok?
If so… then for those that enjoy yogurt I’d be happy to tell you how it’s
made… the thing about making the yogurt is this…
It is fermented longer then any “store bought” is… which does two things…
kills (per se) all the lactose in the milk… (hence my next thought about it
being more compliant Atkins wise) and “grows” more of the “good” gut bugs
which deals with the wonderful stomach balance of dealing with yeast issues
etc..
I’m writing my shopping list now… and look forward to the input and support
of this group :) Love yas!
