150 to lose
I was just wondering if there is anyone out there that has a LOT of
weight to lose. I keep reading about the 20, 30, and 40 pounders out
there, but alas, I am not one of them. I have to lose like a whole
human being, and wanted to know if anyone else was int he
same “boat” so to speak. Or perhaps WAS in the same place I am .. I
want to know because I feel that I am going to be on this for a
while, and I am curious about the more long term-ers.
(not in any way belittling those who have fewer pounds to lose, I
can dream!!)

Hello! My name is Tara, and I’m in San Jose, CA. I’m 29, have 30 lbs.
to lose if I want to be really happy, 15 if I want to be realistic. My
wedding is in July, and I bought my dress last Saturday! It’s strapless
& princess cut. Therefore, I really need to work on my shoulders, and
luckily if I have a bit of a pooch in my stomach (and I did even when I
weighed just 104), noone will really be able to tell. YAY! I’ve
done atkins before, and honestly I don’t love it, but I need strict
guidelines when I successfully diet. For me, this will not be a
lifestyle, but when I get to my goal weight, I will start to do some
sort of low-carb diet, such as following the Glycemic Index.
I just finished a contest I won by essay through our local CBS
affiliate:

However, I did ALL the work myself! It was a total promo thing for my
crappy trainer (we did not meet ONCE). The only thing he told my
nutrition-wise was to follow Atkins. I did, and I lost 10 lbs. in
about 2 1/2- 3 months, but I also gained lots of muscle (why is it that
I can gain so easily, but can’t lose!) in there and did not take my
measurements in the beginning.
I’m about to get back on Atkins. I took a little break after I ran my
first race, a 4 mile in Marin, CA about a week and a half ago. I
haven’t been watching what I’ve been eating since then, but I haven’t
gained weight. This would probably be because I haven’t been eating as
much as I did on Atkins, because I have a cold!
I do exercise quite a bit. I do cardio 5 times a week, and
strengthening 2 times.
1 day- 90 minutes
2 days- 45 minutes
3 days- 30 minutes
I usually do the whole thing on the elliptical machine, in the gym @ my
apartment complex, but I’m hoping to join a gym so I can get some funk
aerobics in!
I’m looking for something new to eat when I get back on Atkins this
time around. I know, wishful thinking, but I get so sick of meat &
eggs. Turkey wraps in lettuce w/mayonnaise was pretty good, but it
doesn’t pack well. I would eat tuna fish quite often, as well as egg
salad. Of course, I found myself eating way too many chicken breasts.
I’m a teacher, and I need to find some portable lunches. If I don’t
bring my lunch, the only alternative option is greasy, carb-coated
cafeteria food. I’d rather not eat!
Like many of you, my favorite foods are ones that are not allowed on
Atkins. Chocolate, pasta, rice. Even fruit, which is not allowed
during induction!
I’m looking forward to hearing your ups/downs with this. I hope to get
pregnant shortly after the wedding (I’ve been with my FI for 10 +
years, it’s ok, really ;)), so I’ll probably just be hear until the
summer, if all goes as planned (but what actually does!).
Until Later,
Tara

Hello
I realize everyone here as different loses, different goals but this
statement has me confused. I am sure I missed part of the post. At your weight,
not
only are your knees a problem, but your overall health is in major jepardy!! I
am confused how only 1/2 lb a week makes your DR happy. This to me is nothing
in relation to your overall body weight! 1/2 lb a week would take you forever
to lose enough to significantly help your overall health!! You could have major
issues before you ever get to a manageable weight. If I missed something
here, please tell me, otherwise i think you need a new Dr. that can help you
with
a steady, reasonable wieght loss program.

I started on 26 Dec 2003. And it has been slow going. Mom’s
doctor and I talked about it and he said if I only lost 2 lbs a
month he would be happy.

Oh of course ANY weight loss is great. However, my concern would be its not
enough, quick enough to result in positive health benefits that it sounds like
you need quickly. As far as exercise goes, could you possible do some light
weight training in a sitting position? Even some light hand weights at home to
get your metabolism started and moving. Upper body exercises would certainly be
a plus. I wish you best of luck!!

When you are stuck unable to exercise to any helpful degree, isnt a
loss a loss? As the weight comes off you would be able to do more
(in theory)
