I’m a newbie

Monday, November 28th, 2005

Hello everyone! I’m a 22 year old female living in Chicago. With
summer almost here, I need to lose weight. I’m in week 2 of the
induction and already lost 6 pounds. I think I’m going to do this
part of the diet a bit longer. I had a few rough days of bitchiness
and headaches, but now i’m alright kinda. I still have slight
headaches. But I have learned to ignore them.
Soooo…when did everyone start and how is it going!
And anyone in Chicago?

I’m new and question

Sunday, November 27th, 2005

I have a question about food on Induction: is beef jerky allowed?
The kind I bought has 3 grams of carbs per ounce. Is that going to
mess me up?

that goal.
Hope we can all support and cheer each other on!

Net Carb Question

Sunday, November 27th, 2005

Is it correct that to get the net carbs of a food you subract the
amount of fiber from the amount of carbs? And during induction I
can have 20 grams of net carbs a day?
I was on Atkins about 6 years ago and I don’t remember the
subtracting fiber part at all. The carb count was the carb
count…at least that was what I did.
Thanks for the info.

I’m starting

Sunday, November 27th, 2005

Hi everyone!! My name is Crissy. I am 23 and I live in Louisiana. I
am 5′1 and weigh 210 lbs. I have always been overweight. Well since
about the 3rd grade. But never this big. It seems that I have gained
10 lbs every year since my husband and I started dating. He has
really bad eating habits and I have noticed that alot of them have
rubbed off on me. I was lucky when I was pregnant for my daughter. I
lost 6 lbs rather than gained anything. I was so happy that after I
had her I was 20 lbs lighter. That didn’t last long. Now 15 months
later I am 210. 10 lbs heavier than I was before I got pregnant. I
had just started atkins for about a week before I found out I was
pregnant then I quit. In the last month I have tried to start it
again(a few times) but I seemed to not be able to make it past the
first 2 days.
My goal is 140 lbs. That is 70 lbs. That is still considered
overweight for my height but I would be happy there. I am really glad
that I have found this list. If any one else on this list has small
children I was wondering how do you go about feeding them. I think it
is important for my daughter, Dacie to eat a moderate amount of carbs.
How can I get through the first few days with out grabbing for a
“goldfish”?
I’d also like if some of you would share some of your menus with me.
I don’t eat seafood and really don’t like many veggies but I am open
to trying any that I haven’t already. I do like cucumbers, and I LOVE
broccoli.
I was also wondering if it is ok to drink Kool-aid made with Splenda?
Water gets really boring really fast.
I am glad that I have found this list. Hopefully it is what I need to
not fall off the wagon.

At a standstill HELP!!!!

Saturday, November 26th, 2005

I have been on Atkins about 6 months. I have lost about 20 lbs. I
still have about 60 to go. It seems like the last 2 months. I go up
or down about 3 lbs.and basically stay the same. I am almost to the
point where I am ready to give up, but I really like this diet and
find it pretty easy to follow. I just wish I was still getting
results. I am 48 and have just noticed that I have not had my monthly
you know what for a while now. Maybe I am starting into early
menapuse. Would this effect weight loss?? I go to my doctor for my
yearly check-up in June. But It just hit me that this could be one of
the problems If this is the case I wonder what I should do. I would
love any advise I can get also encouragement would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I am soo Excited

Saturday, November 26th, 2005

I have been on Atkin’s for 9 days and have lost a total of 10 pounds
already. My blood pressure is finally at a normal reading. My husband
says he can see the weight loss in my face. I want to see it in my
gut, not my face.lol…But just seeing it on the scale is awesome!

The Diet that Kills???

Friday, November 25th, 2005

Am new to the list as of yesterday and am quite disturbed by the comment
that this diet kills.
(This is long - sorry to be so long-winded on my first post!!)
I did this diet a few years ago and it was wonderful and I kept the
lifestyle for a few years. I fell off the wagon when I began to teach as it
was soooo easy to eat in the school cafeteria - BIG MISTAKE - so I am going
back to basics and am so grateful that there are actually people who do this
diet. Not many in 1998 when I did it the first time and I heard all of the
terrible negatives. (People ask how you have lost weight and then criticize
how you did it and then don’t really have a clue as to what they are
criticizing)
The reason I am writing is that I want to give anyone who needs it more fuel
in the battle against the naysayers.
While doing the diet the first time I was in graduate school taking a
medical anthropology class and we studied the diets of quite a few different
peoples. The professor used quite a lot of scientific journal articles
during these studies. It was very ironic to me that most of the articles he
gave us to read backed up every thing Dr. Atkins writes about in his section
on diets of people from various places and times. The articles we read
discussed modern diet related diseases, malocclusion of the teeth,
lifestyles, etc.
I did not need any proof other than Dr. Atkin’s scientific explanation to
realize that this was the absolute best way to eat, but it was very
gratifying to know that the research is out there if you know where to look
and that while the research was not done to confirm or deny this way of
eating, it does a pretty good job of backing up the claims.
I might be able to dig up the papers if anyone is interested - may be deep
in storage in the attic, but I know first hand how critical folks can be
about this diet. I heard it almost everyday from family, friends, and
acquaintances last time and am so happy that it has become a “mainstream”
approach and that it is getting so much notice (and research).
I hope whatshername figures out how to unsubscribe soon,
Tracy
