I am new and really need this support…

Friday, November 25th, 2005

Hi All,
I would first like to introduce myself and tell you a little about
me. My name is Pamela, but everyone calls me Pam or Pammy. I am 28
years old, live in Florida, have two sons 9 years old on the 14th of
this month and another who is 19 months old. I am married to a
wonderful man who is in the US Navy and has 5 more years left to
retire. I am working right now as a receptionist/assistant at a
Nursing home on the weekends. During the week, I am home caring for
the little one. Also, I take many meds due to having a disease
called Arachnoiditis, which cause pain all over and limits the amount
of exercise one can do. Atkins has worked for me before and I am
planning to start the induction period starting this Saturday, April
3rd. So I could use all the support and encouragement I can get. I
weigh in right now at 245 at 5′ 7″ and I would love to be back down
to at the most 200. The added weight is weight that has not came off
since I had my last son (which is when I got this disease). My meds
cause weight gain and an increase in appetite also, but I know I can
lose the weight..just the point of starting and sticking with it
through all the other choas in my life. Sorry if I wrote a book, but
sometimes I feel that I could write on just on my life thus far. I
appreciate yours ears to listen. Please send me all the
encouragement you all can give and I look forward to hearing from you
all. I wish good wishes in their endeavors.
Love and light,
Pam

Hi Everyone!
Okay, I need advice. I started Atkin’s last wednesday, then thursaday
night decided I did not have enough food and would starve, so quit.
My mom bought me some food, so I started back up as of Saturday
morning. I just checked myself on my mom’s scale and it says I have
lost 8 lbs already. Is this possible?

Hi All,
I joined this group a few days ago and have been lurking (shy, you know).
Thanks for all the great helpful hints. My husband and I started Atkins just
over a week ago. He’s down about 10 and I’m about 6. We’re going crazy with
boredom over the food choices. Anything you can recommend for us to shake it up
a bit would be appreciated. Also, when checking the carb counts on the bars,
they are all near 20 per serving. If we’re only allowed 25 on OWL, how can
these possibly be low carb?
Thanks!
Diana

What to do — suggestions needed??

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005

Hi all. I started Atkins on 1/22. Induction went great & I actually
stayed on it for about a month. By 3/1 I’d lost 14#. I went on a 7-
day cruise the second week in March & didn’t gain back anything!
I’ve given up most pasta, all bread, cakes, cookies, candy, desserts,
potatoes, rice, junk food, etc. It’s been over 2 months since I had a
Big Mac — LOL. I used to be a BIGGGGG junk-food junkie — now I eat
salads, meat, veggies, etc. Good stuff!
I have stayed at this new weight for a month now (including the
cruise). The 14# I lost the first 6 weeks is ALL I’ve lost. Since I
really want to lose 40# more, this is kinda discouraging.
So what do y’all suggest? Go back on induction? I walk some, but
really don’t exercise. Since I haven’t lost any more in a MONTH I
need to do something!
Thanks in advance for any advice……

Terry~ I have been doing atkins since Aug 17th, 2003. I have lost 31 lbs. I
have been between 149 and 153 since the first week of December! I have not
lost anymore weight but at least I have kept it off!! I do occasionally eat
something that I am not suppose to but not on a regular bases. I teach
gymnastics and get a little exercise that way. But no cardiovascular!!! I
guess I
need to get walking. Let me know what all you find out about this!! Sharon

Please, everyone chime in on this subject

As the author of “Grateful, but furious”, I decided I would do some sleuthing
around among people I know that either are or have been on Atkins in the past.
I have been at a plateau of losing only 11-13 pounds after having been on Atkins
since Dec. 28. I gain and lose the same 2 pounds over and over. Here is what I
found to be the common denominator among the ones I talked to:
EXERCISE.
Now… that being said, I’m not saying I don’t exercise at all. I do. I use a
treadmill for 30-40 minutes. Just not every day. Not on a consistant and never
failing way. I don’t cheat on the diet. So this HAS TO BE IT. I can’t seem to
stay in ketosis anymore, except for the one day last week I got to walk on the
treadmill!
My daughter in law’s sister was on Atkins at one time. She told her it was
exercise. My daughter’s high school principal told me he’d lost (but now gained
back) 60 lbs. on Atkins… and it just won’t work well w/o the exercise. The
coach I have been rivaling at the high school since December…asked me if I was
exercising.
SOOOOOOO…….. here is the question of the day:
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE LOSING… and have passed the one-two month
period….what kind of exercise are you doing, and for how long?
This would really encourage me to keep on. I explained to friends at lunch
today, that the diet is really liveable for me… so it’s not that I really want
to chuck it. But….dang it…. I want the results that everyone else around me
seems to get!
I have a treadmill, which I prefer to use (I have my own mix of the Backstreet
Boys going from slow to fast to slow songs for rythm). I’m 45, married, I work
outside the home, am the cheerleader sponsor for my 16 y/o’s squad, in the
church praise band, a new granny to my 25 y/o married son’s 10 month old, and
just married off my 22 y/o college graduate daughter last month, attend every
basketball and track event my 16 y/o participates in, I garden, and lastly……
there’s always the housework! So… the treadmill is truly the only thing I
would have time for.
I’d appreciate any input from everyone on the exercise subject.

Half Way there!!!!

Just wanted to share my exciting news… since Jan 11th I have now
lost 25 pounds…. and I have exactly 25 pounds left to reach my goal :) I continue to be amazed at this way of life. I have not once felt
deprived, or that I am on a “diet”. My fiancee keeps mentioning the
word “willpower”. I told him that it takes absoulutely NO willpower
to maintain this way of eating. Atkins is literally a small but
permanent modification to the food that you choose to eat. I now eat
whatever I want, whenever I want, and however much I want. Bread,
pasta, cereals etc. are just simply not an option. That’s it. No
willpower involved. This morning I was really expecting to
maintain/gain, as yesterday was a big of a “piggish” day. i had my
usual bacon and eggs for breakfast, then had a low carb tortilla with
tuna/mayo and pickles for lunch. For an afternoon snack I had some SF
jello and whipped cream. For dinner we ordered chinese. I had egg
drop soup, chicken chop suey, and beef with mixed veggies. THEN after
chowing on chinese, I had some low carb ice cream before bed. I
usualy don’t eat THAT much, so after eating chinese (which is known
for it’s high sodium), and after eating too much “junk food”, I was
absolutely floored this morning when I weighed in and found that I’d
lost another 2 pounds. :) Summer shorts and tank tops….here I come!!!!

Does anyone know where Ed went?? I think he went on a cruise about a
month ago, but I haven’t seen any posts from him since. I’m curious
to know how he’s doing!
