Great job Angel!!! I am new here and am starting tomorrow. I have been on a
lower carb lifestyle (Not Atkins) and have lost 15 lbs in about 3 mos.
I love the atvantage bars by atkins…they are quite tasty for only 2 grams
of carbs. I also used the steak sauce, marinating sauce and salad dressing by
carb options…those are good too.
Keep up the good work!!!
Thanks Tonja…Things have been goin good so far..GOOD LUCK TOMORROW..keep me
posted on how you are doing!! I am waiting til Thursday to see if i’ve lost
any weight..so keepin my fingers crossed!!! Gonna look for those things you
said you liked..i’ve tried the bars…also found out that the ones that say 0
carbs..you DONT eat too many of them..you get VERY VERY SICK..found that out the
hard way last night Good luck!!

Dilema: ATKINS over South Beach? Please help!

Friday, January 20th, 2006

Hello everyone. I am 34 yrs old and 25 lbs overweight. When I was 14
yrs old, I followed the old 70s version of Atkins and lost a lot of
weight. It sure seems that a lot has changed since then!
Last year, I lost 20 lbs with Weight Watchers , but I cannot lose
anymore due to the deprivation factor. Counting points is for the
birds!
Still having to lose another 25, I decided to start either Atkins or
South Beach. I’ve read BOTH books. Walmart has tons of Atkins’
convenience foods and for that reason, this plan appeals to me. South
Beach is always reminding their folks that they are NOT an Atkins
clone, and they criticize the high-fat diet saying it’s not good for
cardiovascular health, which IS a concern for me (heart disease runs
in both sides of my family).
Both plans have their good points, but I’m curious to get folks’
personal reasons as to why they pursued Atkins instead of SB. I
realize that no plan can be right for everyone, but I know for myself
that I need something that will be satisfying and adaptable as a way
of life… not just a “diet’. I am a carbohydrate-addict, much like
drugs are to a drug addict.
Do the Atkins convenience foods (like the ones in Walmart) help make
this WOE liveable? Do you rely on them a lot to get you through those
moments when you just HAVE to have something that would normally be a
*forbidden* food?
Thank you very much for your input… I truly appreciate the support

Vomiting and extreme weakness

Friday, January 20th, 2006

Hi all!
I started the Atkins Diet with my husband on the same day. We both
gave up coffee with cream and sugar. The first day we had scrambled
eggs and bacon for breakfast, hard-boiled eggs for lunch and snacks,
pork chops for dinner with some salad. Drank eight eight ounce
glasses of water throughout the day.
The next morning, I didn’t have the energy to eat at all. So I
thought I needed to eat something to gain my energy. I tried to eat
some eggs, but it was a chore to do so. 20 minutes later, I started
vomiting and I had to lay down on the bathroom floor to rest a while
before I got up on the bed. I couldn’t move a muscle without
exerting myself. Finally around noon, I had to eat something with
sugar, so I ate honey nut cheerios and strawberries. I started
feeling better. The next day, I felt some tension inbetween my back
shoulders and heavy heartburns that lasted a few minutes.
I go on bike rides every morning for my daily exercise. I’m 150
lbs. It’s been a week to the day since my husband has stuck with
the diet. He’s lost 8 lbs (*cringes and cries*) and he’s not
experiencing the extreme fatigue and weakness that I had felt.
Is all this weakness normal? Has anyone felt like this? Since
then, my breathing has felt like I’m breathing in menthol. Kinda
hurts to breathe, but not very much. I have scheduled an
appointment with my physician, hoping to see what is going on and if
its safe for me to go on the diet, or if it was just a coincidence
that I got the flu? Still having headaches, it’s a daily thing now
that I’ve quit drinking coffee with caffiene.
My email addy has been disabled for some reason, this is “kayungiaq”
Kay. I was excited for myself, but I guess now I should be excited
for my husband instead! And I am!! 8 pounds in a week! I would
like to start the diet again, but I’m afraid.

Does it matter what we eat if we stay bellow 20 carbs? Any suggestions for
snacks that are acceptable???
I would say yes. Induction must be followed for minimun of 2 weeks, after
that you can modify your diet and stay under 20 carbs. The closer you are to 20,
the better.

On induction, it says we’re supposed to eat only 20 carbs, and it also says to
eat foods from the list. Does it matter what we eat if we stay bellow 20 carbs?
Any suggestions for snacks that are acceptable???
