Celebrating - End of Week I of Induction.

Friday, June 30th, 2006

Hello all;
Well, I started the Atkin’s diet last week. I’ve never had much
success with diets, and was not getting my hopes up too much over this
one either.
Part of my reason for starting Atkin’s is that I was just plain
tired….tired of climbing stairs and being winded, not having the
energy to do things I’d like to….not being able to find clothing that
fit me, not having the energy to play with Carrie and Andrea for any
long periods of time. I had to do a physical for the college I’ll be
attending for my B.A., and found out how badly I was overweight….I
weighed in at 336.
Well, at the end of week one of Induction (the first phase of the
Atkin’s Diet), I got on the scale for the first time since finding out
my weight…..I’m down to 316 pounds — a 20 pound loss in just 7
days….needless to say, I’m celebrating that accomplishment…minus the
cake and ice cream…LOL !

How do I reply???

Friday, June 30th, 2006

I’m brand new to the group, and I’m having trouble posting. I tried
doing a “reply” to one of the messages that came to me, but it never
showed up. This time, I’m doing it at the site, itself, and I hope
that works. Maybe (as a recent member) I’m being moderated, and the
first post wasn’t read yet. I’ll copy it here:
I envy you gals/guys who have access to all these wonderful low carb
choices all around you. I live in the boonies, and have to drive 1½
hours (each way) to a “normal” size supermarket, but I sure do stock
up when I’m there! I’ll have to look for all these goodies, in the
freezer, next time we go…never thought to look there, before, but
have found the candy bars, etc. I do find, though, at this point
they do make me stall a bit.
Thanks for the wonderful information about what happens as we hit
plateaus, it is being printed out, as I write, and will be hung on my
bulletin board, so I won’t give up! (Hi, to another Penny, by the
way, I’ll use my last initial, so we don’t get mixed up Looks like this group is just the thing to keep me on track!
Thanks everyone, Penny S.

Back from Vacation - Success!

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

Hello everyone,
I’ve sent this twice and it looks like it never posted so I’ll try
one more time!
Two days after I started Atkins I went on a much-needed, mommy-only
vacation. It was difficult, but I was strong and stuck to the
plan. I had a hard time figuring out what to bring with me on the
plane all day and what to bring with me each day while visiting
sites, family, etc. Here’s what I brought in a little zippered
cooler with me every day:
1. Water
2. Baked Chicken legs. (Bought the 24 pack from Costco for $5.00,
threw them in a big ziplock bag with Papa’s Seasoning from Costco,
baked them for 1 hour @ 350. They made a terrific snack to have on
hand and I brought along about 10 of them in the small cooler.
Bonus: I left the rest of them with my husband and kids while I was
gone and they loved snacking on them after school! I’ll probably
keep them on hand all the time now) When the chicken legs ran out,
I bought turkey meat and brought that along each day.
3. Sliced cucumbers
4. String Cheese
5. Mini cheese rounds
6. Boiled eggs
7. Olives (about 5 a day)
ziplock baggies full of ice to keep everything cold
These 7 snack items got me through each day of my vacation. I
packed them in my little portable cooler and they were great to
grab whenever I got hungry. When I went out to eat, I had Buffalo
Wings, hamburger patties, or baked fish as my meals.
For my plane ride home, I didn’t have time to bake more chicken legs
so I went to the supermarket, bought a whole roasted chicken for
$3.99 (I had them check the seasoning they use to make sure it
didn’t have any carbs or sugar). I pulled off the meat, put it in
the good ol’ ziplock baggies and put it in my cooler.
When I got home 4 days later I jumped on the scale and I had lost 5
lbs. Whether it was waterweight or real lbs. — either way, I’m
happy I didn’t blow it! Happily, I’ve lost 7 lbs in 10 days since
starting Atkins. Now if I can just avoid the dreaded STALL.
Have a wonderful week!!

Induction Success…so far

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

Well fell Inductees (is that a word?) I have been on it for one week now -
my second time starting it. 290 pounds when I started. I am into that
feeling of having lots of energy, not being hungry and no headaches. Also I
tested
for ketones… I am putting out the required amount which pleased me after
just one week. I even baked snickerdoodle cookies for a neighbour and fresh
peach cobbler for my hubby and didn’t even have a craving for any. That is when
I know it’s working. My exercise regimen has been daily - 50 laps of the
pool, a one mile walk and tae bo. I know this will help my weight loss. It is
the only thing I didn’t do last time in induction.
I feel in control for the first time since last September. I find myself
making good choices when I have eaten out this week, choosing veges, lean meats.
This is the feeling I have missed. This time is it for me…I honestly don’t
think I can start again if I fail so I’m going to try my hardest not to.
this group is great…the posts are so informative.

I’m new and I have some questions

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

Hi everyone, my name is Sara and I started Atkins Monday, June 7. I
have to say that this is the hardest diet I’ve ever been on. I have
been addicted to sodas and bread for too long. I’ve been feeling
really awful the past few days, but one of my friends says that I
should be feeling really great soon. I was wondering how soon I
should start to see some weight loss. I would also like to know if
anyone has any good ideas as far as food goes. I don’t have a lot of
money to spend on groceries (I’m a student), and I don’t get full off
of deli meat and salad. Thanks!

Introduction - 2nd try

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

I posted this yesterday but never saw it go through. Here’s my intro again:
I’m new here and wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. My name is Norma,
I’m 34 and from North Carolina. I’m in desperate need to lose some weight so
that I can be put on a kidney transplant list. With not much else working, I’ve
decided to try a modified version of the Atkins Diet. (Because I’m a dialysis
patient, I have to limit my phosphorus intake which means very little - or no -
cheeses, milk products, nuts, dark diet drinks, etc.) I started this “diet” on
Tuesday.
I look forward to becoming a part of this group and pray that I can take off
some weight.

New survey

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

Hey Folks,
I created a poll that I will be using for a school paper.
Please visit it and submit your answer.
The question is, “Based on what you have read, Do you think this diet
is safe?”
Thanks in advance for your support

I’m new here and I have some questions

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

Hi, my name is Sara, and I started Atkins on Mon, June 7. This is
probably the hardest diet I’ve ever been on, because I love soda and
bread. I’ve also been feeling awful the past few days. I was
wondering how long it will take before I start to see some weight
loss. Also, can anyone give me some food ideas. I cannot get full
on deli meat and salad. Thanks!

Hi - My vacation menu

Hello everyone,
I started Atkins last Thursday and went on a much-needed, mommy-only vacation on

Have a wonderful weekend!!
