Saturday, July 29th, 2006

From: Our Little (Low-Carbohydrate) Corner of the Internet
5-pound chuck roast
7 tablespoons olive oil, divided
4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 cup sherry
1/3 cup soy sauce
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 onion peeled and stuck with 2 cloves
8 large sprigs parsley
Rub the roast well with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and the chopped garlic.
Place it in a deep bowl and add the sherry, soy sauce, pepper and ginger.
Refrigerate and marinate for 8 to 24 hours, turning meat frequently in
marinade. Remove meat and dry it with paper towels. Heat 5 tablespoons of
olive oil in a heavy pot and brown the roast in it on all sides. Add the
onion and 1/2 cup of the marinade. Cover the pot and simmer for 1-1/2 hours.
Add the remaining marinade and continue cooking until the meat is tender.
Remove it to a hot platter and strain the juices.
Garnish the meat with parsley sprigs and serve with strained sauce.

not getting responses

Saturday, July 29th, 2006

If you’re not getting responses or not seeing your posts, don’t worry, they’ll
show up sooner or later. I joined the group and started writing emails around
June 2nd and my first one finally showed up on the list around June 16th. It
even had the June 2nd date on it still. I think the moderator just doesn’t get
to the new people’s posts for awhile sometimes and then once you see your post
on the board, you’re good to go. Your messages should start showing up quickly
after that and then you should begin receiving responses.
Good luck!

Power Bars

Friday, July 28th, 2006

“Is this the regualr power bars or a special one?”
We eat the Power-Bar Brand Protein Plus Carb Select Bars (2 net carbs). $20 for
15 bars at Costco — expensive, but very worth it. They’re huge, very filling,
and come in Chocolate and Chocolate/peanutbutter. There may be other flavors,
but this is what Costco carries.

Sweet Tooth Problem

Friday, July 28th, 2006

Dear Sweet tooth problem:
Well, my husband and I have the same problem. We each eat one Power-Bar Protein
Plus Carb Select Bar (2 net carbs) a day pretty much. (Beware, they’re
expensive, $20 for a box of 15 at Costco) Sometimes we’ll have two if the
craving is really bad. I usually try to drink a big bottlel of water with my
bar and I’m filled up and satisfied.
As far as I can tell, there’s nothing bad about the bars. They haven’t affected
our weight loss at all. It was our personal choice to eat them even though
they’re not on the official induction menu. We just couldn’t live without the
sweets entirely.
We’ve also made frozen whipped cream snacks: Whip up some 0 carb 0 sugar
whipped cream. Add splenda till sweetened to your liking. Add some 0 sugar
vanilla. Freeze on a sheet of tinfoil in large dollups. They’re great snacks.
Tomorrow is 4 weeks on this WOE and I’ve lost 14 lbs. I’m really happy with the
loss and looking forward to shedding the remaining 60 in no time!
Good luck!

I posted three days ago…no one answered!

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

I am so sorry you are having trouble “going to lose 40″, We all know it is
not easy. I find that if I stay away from all treats and really concentrate on
the meats, eggs, and salads, and lots and lots of real water….no soda! I
have a much easier time. Soda, kool-aid, and caffeine all cause sweet
cravings. Treats cause me to stall and want more….so….it is 8 pm and I just
opened a can of deviled ham….added mayo, onion, celery and took 2 celery
sticks
to scoop up the ham salad mixture (after drinking 2 full glasses of water to
curb my appetite)…..I now have eaten them and am satisfied.
Hope some of these ideas help….if all else fails…..I usually go to bed!!
Good luck,
Marcia

Hi, I’m new

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

I have been trying to post now since 6/26 and have not succeeded yet.
Hope this one makes it. I really need support from a group of people who
have gone and are going through induction as I am. This is my 3rd
attempt at it and I am pretty depressed about it already. I started it
on 6/11 and lost 7lbs in 13 days, then I fell off the wagon and gave
in to temptation. My temptation is sweets. In a BIG way! I’ve loved
them since I was 2 says my Mom and it has been a thorn in my side ever
since.
I have gained back 3 of my 7 lbs this past week and cannot seem to get
past the hump of cravings for sweets. I even took my healthy snacks
with me when I went fishing this past weekend and still stopped and
bought not 1, but two candy bars and ate them instead! See what I
mean, I’m hopelessly addicted on sweets. I fixed cookies for my
daughter and her friends and proceeded to eat most of them myself.
Ugh!! It’s really depressing me because I want to lose the weight
before we go on our 25th wedding anniversary trip on August 3rd. At
this rate I will be heavier than when I started this process. Any
suggestions?

help me figure out this group

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

I’m lost as a lamb here. I have sent emails to the group and have not
gotten one response. It’s like I don’t exist. I read other peoples
emails in response to newbies, why didn’t my newbie email come to
the group? What am I doing wrong?

Hi …and…HELP!!!

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

Hi y’all! I’m new to the group (just signed on today) but *old* to
the Atkins experience. It has worked wonders before as a lifestyle,
but I’ve fallen WAY out of habit, and as a result gained a whopping
50 (count ‘em! FIFTY!) pounds since last summer. This rots. :_(
I’ve hyperinsulinism, so the low-carb lifestyle is vital if I’m going
to stay slim and healthy. I know all the science of adopting this
lifestyle again…but my motivation to jump back on board for the
long haul without any support is just gone. So….
Help?
Is there any chance someone out there is starting the IND phase or is
in it currently that’d like to chat and check in here daily with our
diet concerns??? I’m just anxious to get to know y’all, gain support
and lend it as well. :) I want to start IND as soon as possible–
tomorrow hopefully–and with your help I’ll be excited versus
dreading it.
Thanx!

No Pork Rinds

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

I’m from Canada too and I get mine from the Real Canadian
Superstore. They are their no-name brand, comes in regular and hot
and spicy(this one has a few carbs). I also came across a small
package at Mac’s - Frito-Lay Baken-etS, Traditional. This one says
1g carbs per 15g serving.
