Need Some Tips on “Re-Induction”

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

Hello, my name is John and I just joined this group and have found
some helpful information.
I am looking for some advice/tips on going back on the Induction
diet after you have already been on a low carb diet for sometime (in
effect, going on a “Re-Induction” diet). Let me give a little
background on myself.
I am 5′8″ and generally will work out with weights whenever I can
find the time. In April of 2000, I weighted in at 232 lbs and was
tired all of the time. My wife and I just had our 2nd child and I
knew I needed to get back in shape, especially since I live in
northern NJ and my commute to NYC is an hour and a half each way. I
read Dr. Atkins book and decided to give it a try. After the first
two weeks, I lost 12 pounds and within 3 months, I dropped down to
205 lbs, finally bottoming out at 191 lbs in late 2000. Since then,
I have fluctuated between 200 and 215 lbs, staying pretty much on a
low carb diet since April of 2000.
I have gone on the Induction diet a few times since then in order to
bring the weight down when it got a little too high. Sometimes I
would lose weight, other times I would not.
Since I have a big vacation coming up in late March of 2005 (over 4
months away), I’d like to get my weight down under 200 lbs again
since I’m around 210 lbs right now. So once again I am going to go
back on the Induction diet to try to bring the weight down.
However, I have a couple of questions I was hoping someone could
help me with:
- Would it be a good idea to go off a low carb diet completely for a
week or two before going back on the Induction diet again or should
I stay low carb and just go on Induction?
- I an into working out with weights and my workouts can be pretty
intense at times. I am fully aware that a low carb diet and
especially an Induction diet will take away some of the energy I
used to have. I have experienced this first hand. But can working
out be harmful for an Induction diet? My concern is that I might
put my body in “starvation mode” insetad of a ketogenic state.
- I usually suppliment with L-Carnitine and chromium picolinate to
help the fat burning process. Is it helpful to increse these
suppliments during Induction?
- Does anybody have any other useful tips on going back on the
Induction diet after low carbign it for some time?
Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated.
John

Thanksgiving-what is everybody doing?

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

Hi, I’ve been on the induction diet for two weeks now and have lost
8lbs. I was going to go off it just for Thanksgiving. I was
wondering what everyone else is planning on doing - are you going to
stick with it or indulge for the day???

Be aware….very aware!

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

Wow - the subject line for me says it all. Be aware of everything you
eat and most of all - how much. Just because it says low carb or has 0
carbs doesn’t mean it is safe. I have been eating way too much of those
fantastic little cream cheese/chocolate bites and baking with my almond
flour and flaxseed and let me tell you………………the scale showed
it! I have been cooking all week trying new things here and there loving
every minute of it. But I did notice something on
Saturday………….had a day of way to many carbs (around 40 to 50)
earlier in the day and then oh god, I felt awful and bloated and slept
most of the afternoon. Too much cream cheese”cake” and flaxseed muffins
and almond crusted pumpkin pies…….LOL ;-) Thank god I have the will and the mind to stop that cycle, refocus and
slow down a bit. And on another note…….With the holiday around the
corner, I think my no fail strategy will be to eat BEFORE I go over to
the families house. LOL

What is a good substitute for Soy Flour? When I cook with it all I taste
is…….plant food……….green plant stems………yuk!
It takes over the whole recipe and ruins it! GAG!!! I hate this stuff.

I cannot say enough about this product…. of course I personally never used
it… but will now (Thanks for posting!! Really!! It was the nudge I needed
as this has been on my mind for the past few weeks actually!!).
I used the Paragone for kids with my son with incredible results!
Cognitively and in his eating habits… it was great!

Colon cleansers… yucky topic, sorry

Friday, January 19th, 2007

Strange subject I know, but wanted to mention it. I have recently
tried taking a colon cleanser and have noticed a great difference.
Not only have I lost 4 lbs (after being on a 2+ month stall) but I
feel so much better. The reason I decided to do this was because I
have really bad constipation and have been feeling so ‘weighed down’
and sluggish. I was researching online and found lots of information
about an unhealthy digestive tract ( ie. candida, parasites, toxins,
etc.) and all the benefits of having a healthier tract(increased
energy, improved weight loss, lessened allergies, better skin,
etc.). So, since I couldnt get the courage to get a colonic, I
decided to do this one, here is a pic (I got mine at a local health
food store) …

With all the red meat I eat I thought this might be beneficial to me
and it has certainly proved to be. So just wanted to pass this along
as a research topic for those of you who are interested. Do a google
search for colon cleansers and lots will pop up. This one is
informative

Sorry if Im going overboard folks, but it may be helpful information
since it has helped me.
