In Ketosis, but not losing

Hi, I have been in ketosis (very deep purple)every single morning
for more than a week. I was really excited because I was losing
about 1 pound a day, then it stopped and started going up a little
and now I’m just stuck in one spot. I’ve been drinking tons of
water (at home, in the car, at work, at the Y) and my meals
generally consist of breakfast - scrambled egg w/cheese, bacon or
sausage, lunch - chicken caesar (or some kind of salad)w/ranch
dressing, dinner - chicken, pork chops or steak with garlic green
beans, cauliflower w/cheese or broccoli w/butter. The most cheating
I’ve done was when I subconsciously took a small sip of my
daughter’s orange juice this morning. I’ve been taking basic 3,
essential oils and dieter’s advantage (almost religiously, but I
have missed a few doses, because I sometimes forget at work). I
have been working out a bit, but at this stage, there is no way I
can contribute the weight plateau to gaining muscle. I’ve done some
moderate Nautilus training, but primarily, I’ve been doing cardio
(stepmill, stairmaster, eliptical or treadmill).
Any thoughts on what might be going on? Today, I’m at 223.5 from 228
and I really need to push through to 219 to break through
a “decade” , at which time I’m going to reward myself with a
manicure :o)
Thanks,
Michelle

    Michelle,
How long have you been doing Atkins? Based on your weight loss so far
I’d say about one to two weeks. Keep going!! Many many people hit a
plateau at around the two week mark - interestingly, though, while
they may not be losing pounds they’re probably still losing inches.
As I understand it, the reason our weight loss slows is because our
body is adapting itself to this new way of eating. Think about it…
during the first few weeks on Atkins our bodies are in complete
reaction mode and probably assume that the change in diet is a
temporary one (reacting like it would during an unexpected
starvation). After a little while our bodies say “Oh!! So this is the
way it will be permanently!!” - so our bodies settle into a regular
pattern and adapt themselves to the changes. This adaptation can
happen quickly, or it can take a few weeks. But don’t get discouraged
and give up - think how confusing that would be for your body! Just
keep telling yourself that you’re continuing to lose even though you
may not see it on the scale. Pull out the measuring tape, Michelle…
then compare this week’s measurements with next weeks and see if
you’ve made any progress! Chances are you’ll be taking yourself for
    that manicure in no time!!!
    Good Luck!

Will… any hassle from the other teachers about not drinking? Once you
get movin there are plenty of low/no carb drinks out there… my 21 year
old sister was on Atkins and after the 1st 3 weeks she started drinking
again (doesn’t every 21 year old?) and still managed to loose 71 lbs in
10 months! She is still goin strrong and still boozin with her buddies
    …. she’s a size 6 now!
Anywho… Dayhiker… get rid of the scale! I bought one and had serious
scale issues. I would step on it every day.. sometimes TWICE a day! And
even though I know our weight fluctuates day to day… it still bummed
me out and made me question this WOE …. I had my sister come over and
take it to her place… that way the only time I weigh myself is when
she allows me too :) so get RID of the scale! I was in ketosis for so
long and lost weight… but then I’d go out of ketosis and freak out.,..
and yet I managed to loose weight. And when I wasnt loosing weight and
knew I was staying faithful to thei WOE… I found out I was loosing
inches… it’s a beautiful thing when your pants are WAY too big :) so
try not to fret! I know.. easier said than done!

LOL, since blitzkrieg is a German, I suspect the French would find your
misspelling delightful! BTW, I don’t do the scale thing either, for a
couple of very practical reasons, actually …talking scales are *very*
expensive, and the one I had at one time was worthless for accuracy. I have
some things that are tight …and I’ll know I’m doing good when they fit
comfortably …and when I’m sure of that, I’ll take myself to a really
*nice* boutique (the kind I can’t afford) and try on smaller sizes! Then
I’ll find something I really like that I can afford in that smaller size.
As to Jell-O, low carb or not ..sorry, but eww! That comes from my
childhood …I got Jell-O at least 5 times a week …and got to totally
detest the stuff! I feel pretty much the same way about kool aid …of any
ilk, and I’m actually finding that water serves me well, although I do
intend to get some diet rite and seltzer tomorrow. Speaking of seltzer …I
heard mention in passing of a white grape seltzer …I don’t suppose, by any
miracle …? LOL. White grape juice was one of my weaknesses …and when I
ran the GA State Capitol snack shop, I carried an awesome white
grape/raspberry juice that was to die for!

    Hello Dayhiker;
I don’t own a scale…and unless i stumble upon one in a second hand shopp,
i don’t plan on buying one….but i do feel better as i finish week one this
sunday…also my “school clothes” kahkis for example…fit MUCH better…i
mean they look good…i’m not going to try on my favorite jeans until the
end of week 2…because I KNOW how they didn’t fit before i started
    Atkins…
Does this rather non-scientific approach ound “okay” to you? Should I be
following a more “conventional” approach to measuring my weight loss?
    Thanks,
Will :) (one tired teacher tonight…just had a wonderful steak w/ brocolli and
zero sugar/carb jello for my “treat”)
How about using a tape measure?

I think you should buy and scale be held accountable to YOUR weight loss.
You need to know where you are with your weight. Other wise how will you know
how far you have come. Did you weigh yourself when your where gaining weight?
probably not. So that’s why you to account for your weight.

Just some FYI…. you might look goofy as a scale queen :)

    RE:
Also, keep in mind that (per Atkins himself), the majority of the wieght
lost in the first 10 days is water weight. When you hit that first tiny
’stall’ (which really doesn’t qualify as a stall by Atkin’s definition, as
stall is 6-8 weeks of no weight loss while folling the program closely), it
is actually your body replacing that water loss with fat loss. So even
though you don’t see change on your scale, your body is replacing the lost
water and REMOVING FAT. That is why your clothing gets looser even though
the numbers stay the same! Ta-da!!! Keep the faith!!
Hugs, Kristina (who sent an intro this morning, but hasn’t seen it yet ….)

Robyn “WEll, after 15 days on the diet, I’m coming off. I”ve lost 6 lbs.,
but I can’t even walk up a flight of stairs let alone attempt to work
out. I have to stop half way up my stairs to get to my bedroom.”
    and…
“I love the way I feel on Atkins as far as the appetite supression, I
just can’t deal with having rubber for legs.”
