fritatta and things

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

Oh, good, now it makes sense! Frankly, I’m not used to reheating egg
recipes, but this is *really* nice! OK …now, I cook!
side note: I love QVC and often just leave it on, (like wandering through
the mall without walking, LOL) and they are doing a cooking show. Now,
before Atkins, I was sort of hunting for a toaster oven for things like
bagels, Texas toast, and such. Now, of course, those things don’t exist,
LOL, so what is the first thing they show? A toaster that would have done
*all* of that! Ah, well, saved myself some money, (grin). Maybe I’ll put
those savings into …no carb syrups or …hmmm …shoes? (grin). Or,
maybe not, just to keep my checkbook happy.

Induction Results

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

2 week induction results………Jan. 1 = 209…………Jan. 15 = 201
11 1/2 inches and 8 pounds lost. Yay! I am so please with that. I am
just wondering if it would of been more weight lost if I hadn’t been to
the gym so much these 2 weeks (8 times)……..it is obvious I turned
the fat into muscle. I am more happy with the inches result and this is
EXACTLY why I do not own a scale. :) I have never been one to stress on
a scale and then let it bother my day/week. That would drive me
insane!!! With us women with water retention, time of months, hormonal
changes, etc………it is the bigger picture for me. As long as I am
losing about 5 pounds every 2 weeks, to me that is extremely healthy and
beneficial. I will work out, eat right and weigh in another 2 weeks. My
next weigh day will be on Jan. 29. Will let you know!!

Set it and Forget it…

Saturday, March 17th, 2007

Oooooo… I LOVE it… I use that thing for everything! This is the
little (ok, it’s fairly large) machine that keeps me on this diet during
a rough week! this week I made a roast and pork ribs in the
rotisserie… little bit of onion powder, lots of garlic and a few table
spoons of soy sauce… OMG! Awesome! I highly suggest buying one if you
don’t have one… PLUS, I pour a cup of water in the bottom of it (in
the pan) to keep the meats moist and from drying out… plus it catches
all the meat “drippings” and juices to make a GREAT Au Jus. Carb free
ladies and gents (ok,,, minimal because of the seasonings)……
Just thought I’d share… its great because it’s time saving plus it can
be used for multiple meals… It’s just my daughter and myself so
needless to say we have plenty of left overs… I usually slice the
roast in to thin roast beef slices and pack those to go to munch on
throughout the day! Sooo tastey…. most of all… I was VERY surprised
at how the ribs turned out…. Getting them on those 2 sticks was no
easy task b/c of the bones but I managed :) Nichole

Flaxseed dilemma

Saturday, March 17th, 2007

Here’s something I don’t “get”, and the sort of thing that makes me wonder about
ALL labels.
I was happily eating my (supposedly) zero net. carb flaxseed porridge, as
was suggested recently, using the Bob’s Red Hill brand. The label says, for a
2Tbs. serving, “total carbs 4g, Dietary fiber 4g” (which is 0 net carbs), and 60
calories. Ingredients listed: Flaxseed ONLY.
OK, then DH comes in with groceries, and he’d purchased the wrong brand,
Stone-Buhr (whole, by the way, not ground), so I checked their label….
(Their amounts are for 3 tbs., so I’m giving 2/3 of their counts here):
Total carbs 7.26, Dietary Fiber 3.3 (which is approx 4 net carbs) and 100
calories. Their ingredients?? Flaxseed ONLY.
If Stone B’s facts are correct, with 1/2 cup, as in the recipe, Stone-Buhr
would have 16 net carbs and 400 calories WOW, bad on ANY kind of diet. I’d
rather have a slice of chocolate cake, if I’m going to cheat that badly!! And Bob’s R.H. would have 0 net carbs (if you believe that) and 240 calories.
So who do we believe?? Flaxseed is flaxseed, and grinding it surely doesn’t
remove carbs and calories, so where do they get their facts??? Makes you wonder,
doesn’t it? Sorry this was so long, I got carried away!! ~Penny S.

Where’s the burst of energy?

Do you remember getting weak in the beginnning. I”m on day 12 and I am
feeling less tired during the day, but when I work out at night I am so weak!
I
am still forcing myself to work out, but my legs feel very fatigued. I run, so
that’s a big problem. Yesterday, I started taking potassium, magnesium, and
calcium and did feel a little better. I haven’t had the big burst of energy
people talk about. Believe it or not, I battle depression, and my mood is
better. So, I’m not going to give Atkins up, but I really want to stop feeling
weak!
I don’t know that the increased energy some feel would be described as a
“big burst of energy”. For me, it was just feeling better and having more
energy in general.
But, if you are eating enough food, getting all your veggies in, taking your
multivitamins, and drinking enough water, you should start feeling better
soon.
Have you tried _www.fitday.com_ (http://www.fitday.com) yet? Do you know
if you are eating enough? Is your calorie count at 10 to 12 times your body
weight? What about your fat/protein/carb percentages?
Once you get all that worked out, you should start feeling better.
Which multivitamin are you taking? Are you taking Atkins Basic 3 and
Essential Oils? That’s the very minimum you should be taking. The Atkins
supplements can be a little pricey, depending on where you buy them. I take a
*plain
wrap* version of them available at Vitamin World. (It’s their store brand.)

I need a buddy!

Friday, March 16th, 2007

Hi, my name is MJ and I have 100 pounds to lose. I am brand new to
Boise, Idaho and am hoping to bring together a small group of women
who are interested in working out together and sharing
encouragement. (I have a membership to the Idaho Athletic Club on
Overland) If you’re also in Boise and need a buddy, drop me a line
at new2boise_mj@…. We would have so much more success at
reaching our goals if we worked at it together. Thanks, and good
luck to all of you! I hope to get to know each of you, even if we
aren’t in the same city.

Re-starting

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

Hi everybody! I did Atkins for a year and lost about 20 lbs. Then
this holiday season I cheated just about every day and gained 10 lbs.
Then after New Years I gained 5 more. So I’m almost back to where I
started and was feeling so depressed yesterday. I have committed
myself to the Atkins diet again and I am starting again today. I am
grateful that this group is here to help me get ideas and support.

In Ketosis, but not losing

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

Hi, I have been in ketosis (very deep purple)every single morning
for more than a week. I was really excited because I was losing
about 1 pound a day, then it stopped and started going up a little
and now I’m just stuck in one spot. I’ve been drinking tons of
water (at home, in the car, at work, at the Y) and my meals
generally consist of breakfast - scrambled egg w/cheese, bacon or
sausage, lunch - chicken caesar (or some kind of salad)w/ranch
dressing, dinner - chicken, pork chops or steak with garlic green
beans, cauliflower w/cheese or broccoli w/butter. The most cheating
I’ve done was when I subconsciously took a small sip of my
daughter’s orange juice this morning. I’ve been taking basic 3,
essential oils and dieter’s advantage (almost religiously, but I
have missed a few doses, because I sometimes forget at work). I
have been working out a bit, but at this stage, there is no way I
can contribute the weight plateau to gaining muscle. I’ve done some
moderate Nautilus training, but primarily, I’ve been doing cardio
(stepmill, stairmaster, eliptical or treadmill).
Any thoughts on what might be going on? Today, I’m at 223.5 from 228
and I really need to push through to 219 to break through
a “decade” , at which time I’m going to reward myself with a
manicure :o)
Thanks,
Michelle
