HELP! My wife / kids won’t let me do Atkins…need some family frien

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

I was going to start Atkins this past Monday but my wife insisted naively
that it was too “restrictive”, not good for the 2 year old and 6 year old,
and basically wouldn’t allow me to do it. After re-reading some chapters in
the New Diet Revolution, I’m ready to do it anyway and just not tell them
I’m doing it. I’m not worried about breakfast or lunch, because I eat those
on my own. And my wife currently works 2nd shift so isn’t home to eat dinner
with us. But I will have to cook dinner for everyone and I’ve never cooked
in my life! (we eat a lot of frozen, prepared foods or pasta out of the box
with jar sauce). Can you guys send some recipes that won’t give Atkins away
to the kids and wife for me? I really want to do this, but they can’t know
at least through Induction. My goal is to start this coming Monday, so
please post any and all EASY and CHEAP dinners you have! I’ve already looked
at the recipe site, so post other things you’ve tried that work.
Thank you.

Mid Morning: Cheese sticks or nuts…Or my atkins shake frozen
Lunch: Meat with some salad. Or the campbell soup (3grms Carb)
Mid Afternoon: Depends on what I had in the mid morning…either or.
Night: Shrimps….water or diet coke and a salad
Im getting tired…Like right now, i will just go to INN and OUT for
an Protein Burger… But I am already bored…
Anyways.,.,.. I need help…

Anyways…it’s good to have sopme support..

Are these ok after induction?

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

I was wondering if the following were ok after induction:
- Palenta (Similar to Farina. Italian. Yellow in color)
- Plain oatmeal sweetened with Splenda
Also, does anyone know of ANY mass-marketed cereals that are okay dry? I
know we can’t have milk, but can we eat any dry?
Thank you.

What happens if I fall off after 2 wks?

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

Hi, I’m just in the process of starting the induction phase. I just
got the sticks and need to clear out some food in my fridge first
(regular milk, etc). My question is a problem: I have a guest coming
to stay in about 2 wks time and I may have a problem keeping totally
strict. For example, I might have lots of wine with dinner, etc. Is
this going to undo my work? Thanks for any help you can offer.
Cheers, C

quick question …

Wednesday, March 14th, 2007

Can anyone guestimate for me how long it takes to grill a chicken breast on
the smallest Foreman grill? I love my grill …but I cook by guess, since
there were no instructions …and with chicken …I’d just as soon not, LOL!
Thanks, Shoshana

Question & recipe

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

Hi all!
First here is my question, I’ve been on atkins for 9 days now, I
used the ketostix after a couple of days and showed traces of
keotones, I got my cycle and showed negative traces, even still
today I’m still showing negative but the scales says I lost another
pound for a total loss of 4 pounds. So am I in ketosis or not? any
thoughts?
I made this recipe last night, it was really good and moist, its
cheap to make, super easy, and low carb……great recipe, sure to
make really soon!
1 Chicken quartered (I used 4 chicken thighs w/legs)
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 cup butter (1/2 stick)
salt & pepper to taste
juice of 2 lemons/6-8 Tablespoons (I used way less then this and it
was wonderful)
Preheat over to 400
Sprinkle chicken w/oregano and garlic powder. Melt butter in
roasting pan. Add chicken, turn to coat. Sprinkle w/salt & pepper.
Roast chicken skin side up, uncovered for 30 minutes or until golden
brown. Turn pieces over and continue roasting until brown (about 30
mins). Reduce heat to 300 and cook until tender. Squeeze lemon
juice over chicken. Cover and let sit in turned off oven for 15
mins.
ENJOY! YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Guys!

Monday, March 12th, 2007

I’ve been lurking for a few days now, so I thought it was about time
to introduce myself. I just began Atkins the beginning of January,
and I’m LOVING it. I’ve never enjoyed cooking so much before in my
life! I’m 21 and a University student, so I don’t have a lot of
time to cook… and not a lot of people to cook for.
I’ve created a photo album titled “Julie P”, and I’ve posted my most
recent photos (taken yesterday). I figured I may as well hide
nothing…. so I wore a bikini!! Actually, this bikini is my “goal”
outfit, as I’m going on a cruise the first week in May, and I want
more than anything to be able to wear it on the beach comfortably.
I’m 6′3″, and I started at 205lbs. I’m currently 200. My goal for
the cruise is 170. At 170 I’ll look DY-NO-MITE :) Just thought I’d share a few ideas that I’ve cooked up lately.
I’ll put the recipes in a new post entitled Recipes.

Question for the ladies

Sunday, March 11th, 2007

Good Morning ladies!
I have a question:
I started my cycle this month and just took my ketostix test, it
came out totally negative, not even a trace :( Could this be
because of my cycle?
Help, am I normal or totally out of ketosis?
Thanks, Khristina : )

temptation overcome!

Friday, March 9th, 2007

OK, I’m new enough at this to feel inordinately proud of myself, so gonna
brag just a little bit.
So you’ll understand, I manage a gift/sweet shop …lots of yummy candy
…the good stuff, thank you very much, LOL. Anyway, I also carry what I
call penny candy, although, of course, it isn’t. But, when I fill my little
bins, I have to open the containers, and the wonderful smells are
concentrated and waft up to me temptingly. Except that, today …I didn’t
cave in. And I even filled my miniature peanut butter cup bin …and didn’t
sample (quality control, ya know). Yeah, me!
So I thoroughly enjoyed my no carb lunch …salad with some chicken, cheese
and eggs added.
Gently,
Shoshana

Crystal Light??

Thursday, March 8th, 2007

Does that have aspartame in it?? I’ve not had it in ages so I’m not sure.
Aspartame is kind of a by-the-book no-no. In any case, be sure to count the
carbs because they will add up quickly if you drink a lot. having a hard time keeping to 4 carbs a day with 4 pkts Splenda…going over
1, I know. It is for my herb tea since I’m decaffeinated now. (I think I
can, I think I can, I think I can…lol) There are ugly carbs lurking
everywhere!! ARG!
How’s it going without Fitday, Shari? :) That’s tough. I’m addicted to
Fitday!! :) Hang in there y’all!
