AAARGH HELP

Monday, April 30th, 2007

ok I am frustrated today. I have little to no appetite. I have ate
like 4 halves of deviled eggs and 2 oz of ham so far today ( i have
very little appetite. )I got up this am and I gained like 2 lbs. I am
in ketosis again. according to my strips(my strips say the darker the
strip the more Ketones) I am drinking lots of water and I have
horrible body odor so I believe I am releasing the ketones form my
system. I don’t think I should have hit a weight loss platau already.
I ate my 2 cups of salad yesterday,
1 slice of cheese,
a hamburger
2 ozs of ham
2 oz of summer sausage
1/2 cup cucumbers
1 tsp hickory farms hot sweet mustard
a total of 12 carbs and 587 cal
I know I should get between 1200 and 1500 cal aday but I have no
appetite. I know its not my meds thats causing lack of appetite been
on all of them a while.
According to fitday I am burning normally 2500 cal a day. Now if its
wrong taking into account my Dr says that I have to work 2x as hard
to loose weight then I still burnt 1450. I walked like 5 mi last
night thats like 540 cal right there. I should be loosing here. Any
idea what I am doing wrong here? I really am not starving myself.
Also has anyone tried the carb controlled shakes. Are any of them
good? I am wondering if I add one of them to my daily regimen it
might help. Please give me some input.

Vitamin C/Iron–hot drink idea

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

I just looked at the Basic#3 bottle and saw that it contains no
iron… Did you know that? What do you do to get iron?
Also, I found a hot drink I really like that I wanted to pass on to
everyone trying to get off caffeine.
I found a powdered Vitamin C (SuperC, by TwinLabs). I put 1t. of it
in a cup with 1T. of Splenda, add boiling water and sip. Goes great
with with my bacon and eggs in the morning, I’m not craving fruit as
much, and getting more VitC can help me absorb more iron from the
foods I’m eating.

OWL Question

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

I got my post induction blood work back: My cholesterol is really
good, but my “good chol.” is really low. It also looks like I’m
anemic (which kinda surprised me given the amount of beef I’m
eating). Anyway, my question is: If my CCLL is less than 15g./day,
should I consider myself in OWL phase, or still induction phase?
I started the coconut oil. Thanks for the tip. I’ll be getting blood
work done again in June, and am really looking forward to seeing
what my levels are then.

Broccoli

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

In a message dated 2/2/2005 10:50:40 P.M. Pacific Standard Time,
minniemouse27_2000@… writes:
John, Brocoli rabe is ok in induction but reg brocoli is not ok
according to the Atkins website. It has 3 carbs per cup. I also think
it may have a high level in the glycemic index. It is a veg that can
cause you to be gassy wich may contribute to your feeling bloated.
Denise,
Broccoli is perfectly fine for Induction. Dr. Atkins included it with the
“Other Vegetables” that you can have up to 1 cup per day.
I’m not sure where you got the information that it wasn’t acceptable, but it
IS on the Acceptable Foods for Induction list on the Atkins Website.

Pilates question

Friday, April 27th, 2007

I remember someone said they did pilates for their excersize but i
forgot who. Could you please tell me what is the best tape to get,
there are so many, I’m confused!
FYI: I’m 28, had a baby 5 months ago, need to lose 50 pounds, been
on atkins for almost a month and am out of shape…..actually never
been in shape : )
Thanks for any help you can give, Khristina

5th week

Friday, April 27th, 2007

Ok ladies and gents…..time to check in.
Been following plan daily at 20-25 carbs per. Water and supplements
great, fitday tells me I am good in most all numbers, percentages,
vitamins, etc….. Exercise is so so. I did manage to slip on purpose
(nothing is accidental for me) with a few of those laxative acting
chocolates last weekend. Big deal. ;-) So far to date from Jan. 1….10
pound loss.
Here is the scoop…..I am tired, beat down to the ground tired. My
exercise is lacking, that is a given first and foremost. I have no
willpower, no umph, no energy, just wanna sit around. During the middle
of the day (11-3) I just wanna sleep. What is going on in your opinions.
Who here is going thru this? Why is this happening? I just had recent
blood work done (summer/fall) and all numbers there were A OK. I am
about ready to either get some more bloodwork done OR ask the doctor for
some pep pills! ;-) Help and thank you,
Shari :)

February Challenge :: Victoria

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

I hear ya! stress like that does not help! I was doing well last year
too… but I decided to go back to school (medical school at that) and
let me tell you… my insane schedule didnt leave much time to cook and
concentrate on my WOE. I didn’t realize how much work it is … I
figured it out the hard way after gaining back 1/2 the weight … This
semester I am making a valid effort to make it work… besides I am in a
wedding in August… and they are little (and I stress little) pink
(ugh) strapless dresses… joyous…
Besides… i knew it was time to buckle down and loose this weight when
my four year old found my tattoo (on my belly) and yelled “Mom! You have
a Whale on your tummy!”… and I kindly remarked… “Well Madison, it
WAS a dolphin before I had you :)
hee hee
Good luck Victoria…. I know it’s possible to loose this weight on
Atkins. I saw my sister (also a Victoria) loose 71 pounds.. and she has
kept it off for over a year!

Measurement Frustration

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Happy February Everyone. Here’s hoping this is a GREAT month for
all of us “Losers” :o)
Okay, I can NEVER seem to measure in the exact same spot, so my
readings are always a little different. I’ve lost 15 scale pounds
and jeans I couldn’t get past my thighs a few weeks ago are on and
buttoned, but my measurements don’t seem different. Does anyone
have a trick for “same spot” measuring? Part of my dilemna is
the “rolls and folds” and keeping the tape measure out of them :o)

I Gained 1 Pound Last Week. HOW ???

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

OK - Not sure how this happened. Here is a little background info:
I started Atkins in Janaury 2001.. Lost 12 lbs on Induction (from
232 to 220). I have been low carb ever since and have gone on
Induction 4 other times, losing 8, 5, 4 and 0 lbs (the 0 was due to
caffiene from coffee). I have been off low carb for short burst
(like this past December when I went to Disney World). Came back
from WDW on 12/18 weighing 219 lbs. Got sick the first week of
January and started Induction on 1/10, losing 4 lbs the first two
weeks. Week three I gained a pound.
I am very strict on what I eat and basically eat the same thing
everyday:
Breakfast (around 9AM): Bacon and Cheese omlet (2 slices of cheese)
and a cup of decaf coffee (1 sweet & low).
Lunch (around 12:30PM): two cheeseburgers (no bun) and a small salad
with 0 calarie/o carb dressing.
Snack (3PM): Egg salad OR chicken with mayo.
Dinner (7PM): Steak with broccoli and small salad with same dressing
I had for lunch.
Nighttime snack: A low carb hot chocolate (made by KETO) with heavy
cream (since half and half has more carbs).
(The salads above are really small, adhering to Dr. A’s 1 cup
limitation on salad 2 times a day and one cup of vetegables)
I work out pretty intensly during the week (usually 3 or 4 times a
week with a mile run afterwards).
I am very strict with the water intake (usually around 100oz. a day).
Here are the only bad spots I can see in my diet:
- The 0 calarie/0 carb dressing had maltodexrine (sp?) in it.
Perhaps this is not 0 carb at all or maltodextrine impacts insulin
levels.
- The decaf coffee is impacting my insulin level. Dr. A says decaf
is fine.
- The KETO low carb hot chocolate is impacting my insulin level.
- I am prone to headaches and as such, I taken Ibuprofin.
- Maybe I am not eating enough.
Has anybody had issue with 1) decaf coffee 2) maltodextrine 3) KETO
products in general 4) taking a med such as Ibuprofin or
acetominophine???
Thanks for the help.

Gum you can chew

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

Earlier this weekend someone asked about what kind of gum we can
chew. Another someone answered that if you can abide it, you can chew
gum sweetened with aspartame. I discovered that Dentyne Superpack is
sweetened with Splenda - it comes in two yummy flavours, Cinnimon and
Coolmint (my fave). Remember to count one gum as one carb! I try to
limit my gum chewing to no more than two a day.
