OMG Kristina this list is great. Are you staing 1 cup of salad and 2
cups of vegatables DAILY??????????
WOW if this is true then the fitday is not giving me the right
calories count. I wonder if I am using the fitday correctly.
I am going to print this out. This will give me a lot more variety
than what I was eating.
Thank you so much. I love veggies.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated also from anyone
else.

Whoosh Fairy sighting!!

Friday, May 18th, 2007

OK, all you discouraged ones. I started on Jan 3, lost 6 pounds over
induction, and then week 3 gained 3.5 of that back. Slow and discouraging
– you know the feeling.
After a tough time of holding steady, the Whoosh Fairy has finally smiled
upon me! I am down 5 pounds since a week ago, which means that I have 9 more
to reach my original goal of 21 pounds between Jan 3 and March 12. I have
only started adding in walking in the last few days, so I did most of it
with little exercise (for various reasons like being sick). I’m wearing a
shirt that I have not worn in over a year.
TRUST ME, if I can do it, you can! Just stay the course … I am one
stubborn woman, and I will NOT stop until I am at my final goal. You CAN do
it!!
Hugs, Kristina

fast food flash

Friday, May 18th, 2007

I went to Carl’s Jr. last night and saw that they have a low carb
burger… If you get it prepared their way they advertise 8 carbs.
Well, that’s too high for induction I think. Plus the ketchup has
sugar–a definite no-no. But if you tell them to leave the ketchup
and onion off you have a pretty reasonable meal. The lettuce and
tomato are probably about 5 carbs or less and the meat and cheese
and mayo are all acceptable foods. So if ya gotta have fast food,
that may be a good option for you. The downside: it was $4.50! YIKES
About the onion: I was shocked to see how many carbs are in
onions… I use them very VERY carefully. Even onion powder is
loaded with carbs… beware!

I heard it on CNN

Friday, May 18th, 2007

Yesterday morning I heard that both Pepsi and Coke are going to make
diet sodas with Splenda! Pepsi will be marketing their Pepsi One
with splenda and Diet Coke will market a New Diet Coke—something
to watch for, for those of you trying to stay off aspartame.

favorite induction recipe

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

Every week I seem to eat some particular thing that I really like,
and I end up eating several meals of it. The first week it was hard
boiled eggs. The second week it was bacon added to my bfast (I was
scared to eat bacon or mayo cuz they have sugar listed on the label–
the first week I wouldn’t eat them). The 3rd week it was chicken
thighs chopped into bite size pieces and stewed in butter and
tabasco.
This week it’s the salad I eat for dinner. I brown 1C of burger (NOT
the lean kind either), drain it, put it in the bottom of the bowl.
The I measure my salad greens, toms, cukes, and radishes and put
them on top. I sprinkle crumbled bacon over it then add my dressing:
2T. mayo with tabasco mixed in. Yummy…Tastes like a regular burger
without the bun. I’m using cheese very sparingly, but sometimes I
put an ounce of it on the burger too.
I also found out that one serving of dill pickles (or green olives)
has zero carbs… I use them to add zip to my tuna salad. Gives you
that old veggie “crunch” and lots of flavor. I live where we can our
own albacore, so tuna is a mainstay for me, but I’ve heard people
say that the Kirkland tuna from Costco is absolutely the best. Tuna
salad on bacon rinds is delicious. Great party snack.
Happy induction eating everyone!

Julie’s menu

In a message dated 2/9/2005 5:06:43 P.M. Pacific Standard Time,
Ponytalecrested@… writes:
OK I will be more accurate with things like Buffalo wings. I will
drink more water, but my problem is this:
1 cup of salad veggies plus 2 cups of veggies????
Lettuce I can eat with a salad, but vegetables are VERY HIGH in
Carbs. 1 tablespoon of spinach is like 8 carbs and brussel sprouts I
can only eat 5 each for about 8 carbs.
Can you give me some suggestions and measurements. Remember, I can
not afford specialty foods. This has to be things that I can grow or
exchange from another fellow gardener. Meat we get from the meat
market from people who kill their own stock so it is very cheap.
Only thing that is high is the salmon that I love so much.
Julie,
It sounds like you need to get a more accurate carb counter. Try this one:
_Search the USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference_
(http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/)
_http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/_
(http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/)
If you eat foods from the Acceptable Foods for Induction list, you should be
just fine.
For vegetables, eat three cups from the salad vegetables list, OR two cups
from the salad vegetables list and one cup from the other vegetables list.
If you eat all your vegetables that should bring you closer to the 20 carbs.
You don’t need ANY specialty foods to be successful on Atkins. Focus on
eating whole real foods and you will do fine. Eat all your vegetables, get
plenty of fat, drink ALL your water.

Pep Talk/kick in the butt

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

man, if you don’t log on here every few hours, you really have to
read to catch up with all the posts! And I’m not complaining,
either…
Julie–I hope you got the information that you need to get you
going. I went to the fitday site you posted and saw that a dressing
that you’re eating had sugar in it, and that you’re eating some kind
of popsicle bar…that can’t be good. 12 oz. of salmon??? Geez. How
could you stand that meal? Get back to basics.
Victoria, I’ll be thinking of you this weekend, my friend. Sheesh!
What a time you’ve had of it. I can relate to your pain, though in
such a hefty dose! Now it’s time to take care of YOU–by giving
yourself the gift of health and happiness. There is no food on the
planet that can give you what you’re really craving.
And who was the really tired one that just keeps looking at her
vitamins??? That was an early post this afternoon. I hate swallowing
those pills–especially those huge essential oil pills. But it’s
getting easier, and I’ve got energy to spare.
Denise, was it you that told the story about the olive in the
bathing suit? I found a horrible photo of myself wearing a dayglo
green one piece. I’m sunburned and I swear I look like I’m in a
watermelon costume! LOL I laughed so hard that you’d be brave enough
to share that story–so I had to give you one of mine back as a good
faith measure… {{{{{—-<—-@}}}}}
Keep the faith. Spring’s coming and we’ll all be glad we stuck with
it come summer time. I don’t care if I never wear a bikini again.
I’d just like to be able to wear shorts and a tank top!
What gets you motivated?
Best wishes to you all.

BOOK

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

Julie,
If you can’t get ahold of a book at the moment, a great deal of information
can be found on the internet. The rules of induction, acceptable food list
and many other topics of importance are readily available. When I first
joined the list, this information was in one of the first messages I
received….
