don’t think they use Splenda).
Torani sugar free syrups ARE sweetened with Splenda, and you can find a
great variety of flavors at Cost Plus World Market.

hi im just joining. been on Induction for 4 weeks but havent been
on the right track for a couple of days. i was doing really well for
the first 2 weeks and then it all seemed to just go, the will power
i mean. so im hoping chatting will help me get over this slump and
back on track. i had about 30 lbs to lose, but really just wanted
to get back to a certain size rather than weight, so i threw out my
scale, and im just measuring i dont know if this may be the some of
the problem because i dont see it every day and the measurements are
so slight. Actually over 6 inches and down one pant size. Anyway,
hope to hear some friendly voices and great advice. thanks, reg

Eating a lot

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

I’m on day 5 of induction and have lost 3 lbs. My question is…as long as I
stay
within the 20 carb limit can I eat quite a bit? I’m very active and don’t have
a
ton of weight to loose. It just seems that especially in the morning when I
wake up- I’m HUNGRY! I love eggs (and know they are each .5 carb) and feel
like I could eat 4 of them each morning!
Is this ok? Am I going to really mess up if I’m eating too much?

difficulties

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Just a question: How damaging is sugar?
I am currently in a country in which lowcarb anything is damn near
impossible to find. To make things worse, I live in a small town, so
cheese is about the only thing (besides veg and meat) not pumped
full of sugar. Even bacon and sausages have “mizu-ame” (rock sugar)
listed as the third ingredient.
So my question is: is it going to ruin everything if I occasionally
am forced to eat something with a little sugar in it - or am I
screwed?

Sorry to hear that you ‘both’ will be stuck in that place for a while!
Don’t they have a cafeteria in that hospital? You should be able to get
eggs (omletes), and salads there at the least, and you would only be gone a
short time. If you are going to be stuck there for so long, it may be worth
investigating. It’s not that the tiny piece of apple pie is so bad, but it
will trigger sugar cravings and hunger that will make your *next* food
choice even more difficult. Give Koti a hug and tell her that we are
thinking about her! Take care, Kristina
I’m with you, Kristina. If you are going to be there for any length of
time, Denise, you will want to speak to the dietician if you are getting your
food served with Koti. Let the dietician know that you need to be eating low
carb for your health. (It’s true.) Let them know that you want your meat
without gravies and you need vegetables other than corn and carrots, and you
don’t want potatoes. Ask for eggs and bacon or sausage for breakfast. Let
them
know it’s important for you to stay healthy to help with your daughter.
I had a friend who was in a very bad accident that had to spend several
weeks in the hospital, and she talked to the dietician and only had a few
mistarts on get her low carb needs meet.
You can do it, you just have to be assertive and talk to the dietician in
charge.

I
think part of it is just looking at some of the food and it actually
makes my stomach turn. I so want to keep my calories up though. but
right now my main focus is to get Koti well again. heck what I don’t
eat Koti is eating for me AARGH lol. I will be glad to get her home
to her own bed but they say they can’t tell me how long it will be
before they can release her.
Denise
Denise,
Please be sure to eat. You can’t help Koti if you get sick yourself. I
know it’s hard right now, but please do it for Koti. She needs you.
Our prayers go out for all of you.

Hair Loss STILL

Oh boy - have I been busy getting things ready for spring (new garden,
housework, etc…). Hope everyone is okie dokie honky dory!!
Question: My hair is STILL falling out. This is not good. I am taking
supps/biotin/eating all the right things. When I am in severe ketosis I
lose it badly. When I eat a carby meal it slacks off.
Help……..any other suggestions? I will stop this way of eating in
lieu of NOT going bald. It is that bad.
Thanks!
Shari :) Have you been to the doctor to eliminate all other possible causes?
How do you define severe ketosis?
What is your current carb level? Have you tried moving up to the next level
to see if that helps any?
Are you eating enough calories? Are you skipping any meals? Hair loss can
be related to a lowered metabolism.
I’m glad to see that you are taking biotin, but have you tried the other
supplements that Dr. Atkins recommends? N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC), glutathione
and lecithin?

Snack Tips

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Thank you to everyone for the snack tips you’ve posted. I finally
got the nerve up to try the pepperoni/cream chees snack. I have to
say that I was amazed. It really tastes great! My daughter even
likes it.
Plus, you can eat quiet a bit (if you wanted) and the carb count is
virtually nothing!
I’m going to try a quiche recipe in the morning that’s got sausage
and hamburger meat. I’ll let you all know how that goes.
Oh, and another thing…..I finally hit ketosis! I’ve been doing the
strips and they have not been showing anything for several weeks and
all the sudden I’m down 2 more pounds and the strips are purple! I’m
excited and motivated all over again.

O.T. Cabbage Soup Diet

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

Hi everyone…
Remember the Cabbage Soup Diet???? I ran into a friend that I have
not seen in about a year and there was a lot less of her! I asked
what she did to lose so much weight and she said she did the cabbage
soup diet for a week and lost 10 pounds, then did Atkins for the next
week and lost 4 pounds and then did the cabbage soup diet for the 3rd
week and lost 8 pounds and she is now doing low carb. She had about
30 pounds to lose and did most of it in 3 weeks, which is amazing.
That was about 8 months ago and she has not gained any back. Of
course I asked her to email me the diet she followed, and I was
wondering if anyone else has had success combining 2 plans like she
did? I think I will give it a try and see how it goes.
