Medication inhibiting weightloss??
I am a 38 yr male. This is the 2nd time I have done the Atkins
diet. First time I was on it about 2 years ago, I dropped a lot of
weight during the induction period (around 10lbs or more), with no
problem. Ended up losing around 16-18 lbs after several months.
Kept the weight off for over a year and half by just eating right.
In Aug/Sept 04, I began experiencing an abnormal heartbeat (not
related to Atkins). I drove myself to the hospital and within 5
minutes I was flat line for over 1 minute. They brought me back via
chest compression. They checked me for blockages, and luckily I am
clean. The inserted a pacemaker to make sure my heart does not stop
again. I have been diagnosed with Atrial Fibrulation and a form of
sick synus syndrome. I take a beta blocker called Toprol XL (25mg),
which is a beta blocker. Since taking that medication, I have
gained back all the weight I lost. Last week, I began the Atkins
diet again. Tomorrow, it will be one week. I was @ 203 lbs and
after 3 days I was @ 199 lbs. I have not lost 1 single pound since
day 3. Still sitting at 199. I have kept my carb intake below 15
grams a day. I checked the Atkins website and it does say that
medication can inhibit weight loss, and listed beta blockers as a
potential inhibitor of weight loss.
My question is this. Is there anyone who is on a beta blocker
experiencing slower than expected weight loss? If I stay on the
diet, will I still have weight loss, or will I just be stuck on 199?
