Fallen off the bus…..can’t afford the fare to get back on!

Hey there guys/gals!
I just wanted to see if anyone has any suggestions for me….
Jan 2004, I decided i was gonna start atkins. I was 5′11″, 360lbs,
with a 54″ waistline (actually that was under my belly, I didn’t want
to know how big my belly was!) Over the next 4 months, I followed the
plan strictly (at first) and lost 60 pounds! Before I started, I went
to my doctor to get tested, etc. He gave his blessing. My liver
enzymes were 7X what they should have been, my cholesterol, while it
wasn’t ‘deadly’ it was just on the safe side of high, I was
pre-diabetic, and morbidly obese.
As I started to lose weight, I had to get new clothes, and i got a new
nickname too. I went from a 54″ waist to a 48″ waist!!! My new
nickname was “The Incredible Shrinking Butt”
After two months I went back in for a check up, and my doctor did some
quick tests, but nothing too extensive…basic screening for diabetes,
etc. Well, I was no longer considered pre-diabetic, and my chol. went
down, but nothing too exciting.
After four months passed, my doctor couldn’t believe his eyes when he
looked at the test results. My Liver Enzymes were now only twice the
normal level, my cholestrol was at a great level, not to mention my
blood pressure had leveled off, and i had lost 16% of my body weight!
Well, unfortunately, at this point in time, my finances took a turn
for the worst, and lets face it, carbs are cheaper than proteins! I
have gained all the weight back, but even so, have lost 2 inches off
my original waist (i am back up to a 52″ waist).
Here is where I need help/advice….is there such a thing as a ‘poor
man’s atkins’? has somebody done atkins on a VERY low budget and can
help me figure it out? I need to lose the weight again, but it is
tough to do it when money is tight.
